It was an odd article. Would the Geelong, Collingwood, West Coast and Richmond senior players held such doubts and fears going into 2019?

What a pathetic, poxy mindset to think “there were no guarantees of finals again” as Gawn expressed in that piece.

Can’t imagine Pendles, Danger, Cotchin or Hurn ever even entertaining such feelings.

It’s the fragile club culture that allows for self-doubt like that.

It’s not about that. It’s about confidence. Not a moment of self-doubt or disbelief.

Gawn’s words belie a player and a club that still don’t understand the mindset it takes to be a winner.

A real winner. Not a one season wonder.

Interesting article written by Max

But my only concern is that he had to say it 2 weeks after the club had a “sit down tell all truth” session to reset the mind

i know people inside the club care, but how much do they care? not enough i say.

We cannot waste this year, we cannot write it off, we need to fight against the odds, again and again.

Last September told us we are not up to it, 7 months later we are still questioning that.

Back to the Bare Bones Coach, work from the bottom up this week

fight for your job, if you really want it.

The truth is, we knew there were no guarantees.
We knew that just because we made a preliminary final last year didn’t mean we were going to cruise through this season.
We knew that we couldn’t automatically pick up where we left off.
We knew that every year that teams improve.

But what we didn’t know was that we would be 1-5. This isn’t the start anyone wants.
Losing hurts. It hurts even after you’ve won 21 in a row.
I  was drafted in 2009 in perhaps the most unsuccessful era in Demons  history. Yet somewhere, somehow, I fell in love with the red and blue.
I  am an avid Demon supporter. I hurt when you hurt, I celebrate when you  celebrate and I will listen to your feedback when things aren’t on  track.

Again.. its all talk.. its all been talk the last couple years.. Max is great, but he talks a lot.. he tells us the prelim final loss is going to burn in the players.. we come out lose r1..we are 1-5 now he says judge us on how they respond.

Why in the hell should we believe and trust words. its rather pathetic.

I didn't mind the article...

From this I can take away that defence is the biggest issue the club feels that needs to be fixed asap.

I think we saw that on Wednesday night, there is a bigger focus on defence. There are a lot of other issues as well. Like spped and disposal efficiency which I will watch with interest over the next 6 games to see how it improves.

We are 1 - 5. I am hoping for 3 and 3 over the next 6. Lets see what happens

Prelim to spoon chance in 7 games.

That’ll do for a definition of mental fragility for me. What’s yours?

You’d prefer him to say they thought finals were guaranteed? Personally I’d hate it if the players thought they were.

Prefer him not to mention or even think about guarantees or non-guarantees.

Winners don’t talk like that. Second guessers do.

Matsuo, as is screechingly obvious, I was responding to the way people were reacting to the article itself.

And for what it is worth, your earlier claims about 'Pendles, Danger etc would not have throughts about finals not being guaranteed' are just ridiculous, even a perfect inversion of reality.

I swear, you're coming across as one of those people who are addicted to "Be a Winner" seminars and "Rich Dad Poor Dad" style self-help books. So much anger stirred up in you against what is just basic, normal, and practical humility.

He’s on a hiding to nothing, really. Damned if you do or don’t. I understand the want to reach out to supporters and let them know he’s hurting as well. Fair play to him.

Fixing the defence is a priority but the inability to score is almost as alarming. Our forwardline is complete puss atm. Certainly the delivery isn’t helping but right now nothing is functioning. We can’t buy a tackle in our attacking 50. We can’t buy a goal from a forward stoppage. On the occasions when we do have forward targets they aren’t working together. We seemingly have no-one that can take a contested mark. As others have noted, the absence of Hannan may be under appreciated. And of course there’s the purple elephant in the room. Or rather in the west. Somehow we need to craft something together that provides a better output than 2 goals in three quarters.

We made some small inroads against Richmond. Let’s see if any more can be made against the Hawks. There is still much that can be salvaged from this season.

No anger. Just exasperation and frustration at the losers mentality which permeates the club, both on field and off it.

Apathy is the problem, not anger. And your comment reeks of it.

True. Doesn't change the fact it's an embarrassing article, written only to appease mummy and daddy supporters who want people to "stop being so negative!".

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
