Ok,ย the Jetta injury

Nev felt a bit sore in the knee and in the interests of the team pulled himself out of the Sydney game

Had a scan back in Melb, all clear, trained fully Wednesday and Friday

As mentioned previously a St Kilda player caused the new injury

Now 3 guesses where I got that info from

And as for the unfit at pre season start for a few players, absolute toss, Misson didn't even feel the need to pound uo and down Anderson Hill

And the GPS all the players wear plus the manned tracking unit at both training and games must be fake

And discussing rehab with Jake Lever, told me his load was monitored every session, obviously lied

How the hell can you be missing for 12+ weeks with a groin injury?

I'm loathed to speculate with innuendo, but I can't help myself here. Is there more to this injury than meets the eye?

I was all for recruiting Lever and May, but given what we've paid for them, and their output on field, it's a diabolic fail thus far. At least, Lever turned up to training with professional standards, butย WTF is happening with May?

Does anyone have any insight into this?

I copped a groin injury during pre season and it stopped me playing for the year. The pain after it cooled down that night and for quite some time after was severe. Even swimming 2/3 months later I needed a float between my legs such was the discomfort if my legs kicked. Like Steven May I had a scan and it showed nothing.

When I saw Joel Smith still running around in the Lions game and it was known he had a groin injury I was yelling at the monitor (I'm in Bangkok) Get him the [censored] off now!

the club no longer lists a "Load Manager" position.

I have no idea of the specifics of the role, but increasingly that's done by computer programs - you feed in the data, and get a whole heap of metrics out.

So does that mean Roos doesnโ€™t know what heโ€™s talking about? And what about the McCartney issue? If all this stuff is crap, how do you explain what has happened this year?

I'd love to know who came back unfit. I hope they're not being played right now, when guys like Stretch, by all reports, are terrific, professional trainers and last a week in the seniors before being dropped again.

The bloke himself was puffed out 10 minutes into the first quarter on Saturday.ย

I also thought about this. Of those fielded, I see four groups of players:

  • Those with a full preseason who are consistently performing well below what they can.ย  To name a few:ย  Hibberd, Gawn, Tom Mc, Weideman, ANB, Spargo, Fritsch.ย  Two AA's on that list.ย  Official and unofficial leaders on that list.ย
  • Others with niggles had an almost full preseason who are under performing their standard.ย
  • Many of the surgeries were shoulder related so should have had a better fitness preseason than those with ankle/knee surgery.ย ย  One wonders how diligent they were in their rehab...
  • Those that had full preseasons and are performing consistently, even if not excelling:ย  Salem and to a lesser extent Frost. (Honourable mention to Hore and those who are first year mfc players).

I stopped buying the surgery/interrupted preseason spin after round 2 because they did not affect the whole team and those it did affect should have been match fit by then having played most of the practice matches.

Surgeries alone do not give us 1-4.ย  And they certainly do not give a percentage of a measly 75% five games in.ย  It is woeful % and it is scary that we have fallen so far.ย  Looks more like a poor pre season effort, all round.

I have a sick feeling of deja vu to an era when poor off field leadership and standards retarded the development of a generation of our young talent.ย  I expect it to not be repeated and hope Goodwin will use his goodwill and relationship with players to limit damage to the youngsters.ย  But gee whiz senior players better get their act together.ย  And fast!ย

This proves nothing to what you are saying at all, what is even the point in bringing that thread up?. If anything it just shows after many years Misson is still a dud.

Misson and Cross will have designed individual programs for each player in rehab. They wont have a specific set target on when they will return to full training as its all about getting as much volume into their legs as possibles. Once they have ticked off majority of their rehab they are then phased into full training. Misson and co will then give Goodwin the final tick of approval.ย

This will be the last i explain on this matter, up to you what you want to believe.ย

A month ago everyone was lauding the fact we traded him due to his off field issues. ย Now he plays one good game, May is injured and we are going bad and itโ€™s the worst trade in history.

Talk about jumping at shadows.ย

Yeah that is what is typical of this site, schoolgirl syndrome gush and drool over the players and footy department one minute curse and berate them the next.

This is so disgusting. A pathetic club culture from the top down. I'll get howled down but imo the members should boycott at this stage. Totally unacceptable by Goodwin and co. And the players...?

You boycott the games then, no one is stopping you.

Sub standard fitness,ย poor attitude and lack of trust are symptom of poor leadership and culture. Your point about leadership is spot on. As Goodwin said there are no excuses but boy we seem to be hearing a lot of them.ย

Injury report should be out today, after training, if they follow their normal cycle pre game. ย Hopefully we will find out about May.

they should also do a form report, and own up to who they are carrying at the moment. ย Would leave a short list of non injured and in form players.

Tom Mc had 2 surgeries on both ankles I think? May be wrong. If he did and he was encouraged to play through it when he needed Recuperation, it would not make for a happy player.

Hibberd I posted about in JLT game 1 about how slow he had suddenly become and how unaware he was of it. It wasnt well taken on here..ย

Just on a technical note, I've crossed out those that didn't have a full preseason and or had surgery.ย  (* ANB Minor setback IIRC)

Out of interest what were their issues? ย  I recall training reports saying various players were in 'rehab' but more to do with tempo of work rather than injury.

Even so do you think those issues prevented them having a full preseason ie missed many training sessions or would still be affecting their performance?

Our current injury dilemma will be the opportunity for Petty, Kielty and Oskar Baker to break into theย side and get a real taste if AFL level footy.ย

Similarly you would think Jeffy will get a go and young Lockhart who has over delivered from being a total nobody only 5 weeks ago.

We won't win too many games blooding young talent but they may inject the enthusiasm and urgency we so badly lack.

The players expected toย return from injuryย in the back half of the year should not be rushed, as is our tendency to do.

As for the game plan, it is too late to change it now, we recruited for it. However, it should be obvious it needs to be reviewed and enhanced with outside pace seen as important as hard nuts.

Having been here so many times before over the last 50 years plus, l am very disappointed but not destroyed by our current position.ย

I believe the players the coaches and the admin crew are all fully aware of the damage we have already done to our so called "brand".

Weย have passed the close enough is good enough mentality of prior decades in my view, this is serious and will be treated as such at all levels.

ย

Agree with most of this HaH however there is little damage to our brand as it has been poor for half a century. It is hard to damage something that does not exist.

There's no excuse for May. He's turned up at a new club out of shape and is now paying the price with soft tissue injuries.

Was told May injury confirmed on SEN this morning. A further 6 weeks, did anyone hear this?

We can forget these two for 2019, along with Vanders they are shot. Start preparing them for 2020. We will be in the bottom four by the time they have any chance of playing so why bother.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
