I'm looking not right now but probably the half way point when we get Lever. If we want to be a premiership team we have to make changes our team is still too slow and not enough good ball users.

I've made the tough decision in retiring Jones and Lewis and we have the worst key position player in the comp in O.Mac and we have no small forwards..

Kolodjashnij to take Salem's role, Salem into the midfield to add some much needed class.

Hunt and Baker to give us speed on the wings.

Chandler seems like our most gifted small forward unfortunately.

Jordon and Fritsch as our good ball users off the bench.

    Yes it could well be for 2020 more than 2019 but I like the changes .

    Cant see why Lever is not intercepting off half back but suppose he plays in between the lines.

    Worthwhile policy to try.

    I think Vandenberg would be well ahead of Jordon at this stage. Hannan and Vanders make a massive difference to our ball movement and leg speed across the grounf.

    Getting Kolodjashnij fit and in the team shoul be priority number one. He is quick, skillful and a good runner. Perfect for half bac and the wing.

    I think we will see Baker at some point this year, but I don't know if he will be up to the level just yet.

    End of the day, we just have way too many injuries at the moment. May, Lever, Hannan, VandernBerg, J Smith and Kolodjashnij would all be in our best 22 at the moment.

    But I do agree that Oscar is the most overrated average key defender defender on demonland. 

    It's a funny one with certain players. Once they get knocks, (for generally spudding it up) you tend to get this strange reverse group think where posters end up defending a player so vehemently, they end up congratulating what would normally be termed as elementary defensive play. A spoil for instance. Haha. 

    It's actually a hilarious thing to witness. 

    Oscar may be okay as a third tall once May and Lever are in the side. But other than his great field kicking (for a key back), he doesn't possess a single trait that excites. 

    Athletic, agile, fast? No. 

    Reaction time, awareness, physicality? No. 

    Intercept player, killing contest beast? No. 

    General elementary spoiling in a contest? Absolutely hit and miss.

    Now we're talking. This is the 'Demon Dream Team' that I dreamt about since our loss to WCoast last year. It still has talented blokes competing at the VFL level, getting ready to play a role as a substitute when injuries occur. It will also be indicative of the type of skillset that is needed in order to play for our AFL team. Like this, very much and hope our waiting time is not too long. One player that I have in mind to shake 'em, that will produce, is Keilty.

    So, all you track watches, H. Petty. Is he progressing well enough? I reckon he almost (almost) single handedly lost us the Saints game last year. He was thrashed by McCartin and looked really out of his depth. Maybe I’m being too harsh, but that day he was a fish out of water!

    When it comes to OMac, this post hits the nail on the head - leakage machine, absolutely no problems for any forward, in any team.

    Rather than laying the blame on any single defender, it seems like any half decent key forward kicks bags of goals on us 

    Clearly the FD see this as a key weakness hence the recruiting of May and Lever, unfortunately, both NA in round 1

    I suspect that with both or either not present in future games the same trend of key forwards having a day out will persist and more often than not we will drop those games because our forward 50 structure doesn't seem to be that effective

    OMAC makes my team. Lever was all at see last year as a 2nd tall defender. Much better as a 3rd defender/interceptor type. Omac will be better with some quality around him.

    100% agree. Frost has way too many brain fades to be considered a viable long term option.

    May number 1 defender. OMac number 2 and Lever 3rd tall/interceptor is good for now.

    I suspect Petty will go past Oscar though in time. Not ready yet though.

    Hard to stop goals when the midfield is slow and soundly beaten. Win in the midfield, put pressure in opposition fwd entries and even Frost looks good sometimes, e.g. the first two finals last year.

    Been saying for years on here that Oscar is a scrubber. He is pretty much our own version of Zac Dawson who will probably cruise to 150 games spudding it up each weekend.

    I wish Goodwin grew a set and actually drops him once in a blue moon. Petty showed more in his game against Richmond then Odcar has his whole career.

    Wouldnt it be good though if Oscar actually became the quality once in a while? Sick of players relying on others to make them look good.

    I remember early on a 188cm Clint Bizzell would play CHB on the power forwards and beat them hands down. And this is around the period where Bizzell at certain stage in his career was our number 1 defender.

    What we all wouldn't give for Biz at the moment. I'm no OMAC defender. I think he ranges from good to average from week to week. Against Port he was the latter (as was most of the team). My point was that on team balance he is the 2nd best tall defender we have at the moment. To my mind Lever doesn't fill this role. I don't think Dropping Oscar will make him better.

    I loved Clint Bizzell.  He got every ounce of ability out of himself and gave 100% every week.  I still remember the game saving smother against the Dogs when he had a broken hand.  Didn't flinch for a second, just jumped in there for the smother for the team.  Brilliant stuff.

    Can’t believe your leaving Petracca out ,he was great in the finals , and probably our best player in the JLT ,I still rate him highly .

    He wasn’t the only one who struggled on Saturday.

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
