I like the Allen Jakovich swagger reference that the author believes Melbourne supporters now exhibit. Don’t think I’ve got a strut going yet but it is certainly nice not to be the runt team of the competition and to be proud about the side you barrack for.

Love the ruthless approach but as a supporter/member only I will take 4th place with 2 wins in the finals over any of our myriad of deplorable years.

But we are just onlookers ... we control nothing.  If we could control things those deplorable years would never happen.  The footy side of things that is

Macca, If you're really Ron Barassi in disguise then even you couldn't prevent the deplorable years.

One week at a time please Demons.

There are some quality sides this year who all have improved lists.

The outcome is going to be measured in centimetres possibly even millimetres.

As in all cases, you need to have everything going for you and on top of that have a lot of luck.

Second half of the season will hold the key in terms of form, injuries and position on the ladder.

No swagger for me until we win the big dance.

We need to walk the talk.

Good players win games W11 ... now we've got those good players we can win

To win big comes down to the coaches and the best of the best firing on all cylinders

We're in with a chance this year

True Harmes you will not be the only one. In fact any teetotalling supporter that did not have a drink or two would be lousy!  As for the rest of us god help our livers.

Agreed  'hw'.

All the easy beats from which we emerged,  are not so Easy beats as they were...  they are improving at the bottom ladder.

The competition is getting more even each season.   Since the hawks and cats got old.

... not so many as we like to think 'Mca'.

What we need is to strengthen our weakest links.  and some of our good players aren't as good as the perception of them is.

If our forward line fires and we have a reasonable run with injuries we'll go alright.

Reading this, I can close my eyes and imagine Bob Hawke on telly after we break the drought recapturing his Australia II celebrations “any boss who fires anybody for not turning up to work today is a bum” (but wearing the Cameron Schwab blazer).

Take it one week at a time. Take every game as it comes. We're not getting carried away. Cross the t's and dot the i's. The boys know they need to stick to the game plan. Sorry, got an overdose of the cliches. Can I add another one? Keep a lid on it!!

Yes, hopefully we will do.

But we are, Young...  and still so much to prove.  Some are up to doing the proving... some are still following.   Instead of taking up the charge.

I reckon a few of us could pop off this mortal coil winning the GF, football matches can be fatal when the excitement proves too much,  Dutch fans were literally dropping dead on the day their national team was knocked out of the 1996 European championship. Deaths among men from heart attacks and strokes soared by 50% (14 extra dead on the day)  when Holland were beaten by France in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out.

Anyone selling life insurance? Get on Allianz i guess.

I hear you Macca.  2018 was far more enjoyable as a supporter than any of the previous 12 to 18 years.  Getting thrashed every week sucked big time.  Winning more often than not and handling out a few thrashings of our own last year was alot of fun.  Playing well in finals and making an impact the way we did also provided a level of satisfaction.

But I was neither elated or shattered by us making the preliminary final and subsequently losing.  The present compeditiveness of the team certainly encourages me, but as a supporter who has seen us make it to and lose numerous preliminary and grand finals, just making a preliminary final doesn't seem a particularly victorious occasion.

Love the simmering ruthlessness that Goodwin has bought and the team are embracing.  The MFC has unfinished business until we bring home that next premiership and it can truely be a Grand Old Flag once more.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
