I'd expect the 'powers to be' to play some senior players but only for a quarter or 2......A great opportunity to look at the progression & development of some of the 1st year players under game conditions & some of the players coming back from injury/rehab.

Don't expect a host of strong players playing in this game for either side

Hey guys, I'm going along for the whole thing. Feel free to post anything you want me to look out for. I might take snaps on my phone too and unlike other posters I don't care who uses the photos. lol jk just stirring the pot!

Are you referring to players or spectators?

I think he meant umpires....

I wouldn't be getting my hopes up for any big names getting much game time, let alone included.

I'd be more curious to see how both sides have adapted to the new rule changes - 6-6-6, prior opportunity in the ruck, kicking in from a behind and also no team runners!

I had a day off work all planned out - then the boss booked a mandatory 9am meeting on Friday....

Well I will be there, and a squillion pie supporters,  work for Thursday then a lay day.  but its the first chance this year to see a game. Only got to 4 regular games last year so I will be one up at the start.   But I don't expect much  the scores will be irrelevant, just want to watch the younger players and those we recruited.   Come on Dees !!

Only if we lose. If we win it will foretell a rosy future.

Mainly toothless, uneducated swine.  Oh, and a few Dees supporters.

What's that supposed to mean?

Nothing exciting. I tried to jazz up the thread with a potentially controversial/leading line of thought. You answered with the most common-sense straight-forward answer. Non-sensational doesn't garner clicks = go back to internet media school. That is all.

No point in testing oneself, against second raters, at the very least against the better players you get a more realistic idea of potential and perhaps a bit of confidence.

From this article:

The Demons will still field a strong line-up against Collingwood with Angus Brayshaw, who finished third in last year's Brownlow medal, Christian Petracca and James Harmes among the players set to play.

Jake Melksham, who signed a new contract recently after an outstanding 2018, will be rested as he continues to build his fitness after a hamstring injury delayed his pre-season while recruits Steven May (hamstring) and Kade Kolodjashnij (adductor) will also be sidelined.

Think i read there is a live stream?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
