Wow so many people from all over the globe, following our great club?

Careful... Gil will have us playing games in Splitz if he thinks he can make a bob or two?

completely off topic but perhaps relevant to our followers in China..

After years of trying to work out who Hisense were I think the arena for the Australian Open Tennis has been renamed 1573 Arena.

A google search showed up a brand of Chinese Liquor. Any of our China residents care to comment.

Cheers

PS.. found this on the net:

"Australian Open officials announced in Shanghai last night one of the biggest sponsorship deals in its history with an aspirational Chinese distillery that dates back to The Ming Dynasty. "

Where in Paris, Bing? I moved to Oz 13 years ago, but was in Paris (10e - Rue du Fbg St Martin) for 4 years or so - still miss it.

Compared to others in this thread you live on an alien planet.

I'm based in Shanghai at the moment.

I think it's better than living in Melbourne sometimes for two reasons.

1. The games start two hours earlier than Melbourne time. Not as much time waiting around nervous.

2. You can get as immersed or as a distanced as you want during the season. Can always go to the Sports Bar and have drunken yarns to other diehards if you want a good atmosphere, but after a loss, it's easy to move on, because nobody outside of the small expat bubble GAF about footy. The 24/7 AFL media in Melbourne is good to avoid after a loss!

Having said that, nothing beats going to a game live at the G.

Palaiseau (near Massy). 30 mins out, but we have house, garden, dog, (kids!) and easy access to open fields and forest. Helps to retain sanity. Nice area up in the 10e, must have been a buzz.

We all do, they're compulsory in-car equipment. But like most of the locals, I only wear it in emergencies. Right-wing populism isn't really my thing.

Also in Perth (Not sure that counts as ex-pat)  Watched most of the games this year on the iPad (Telstra) as we don't have foxtel, i'm also too lazy to go to the Western Dee's tv functions, though I should.

It’s one of the more popular brands of “baijiu” which literally means “white alcohol”. It’s actually not white but clear like vodka.  Another brand, Maotai, is perhaps the most famous. These well known brands are often very expensive and highly prized as gifts.  They are all all very high in alcohol content and to me taste bloody terrible and more useful for stripping paint or starting engines. Give me a Harbin lager any day.

thanks ... have heard of maotai but have never tried it.

Spending a lot of time in Asia myself I am aware of the paint stripper taste that you describe. It is also used to describe the taste of durian which is also an acquired taste. The taste you describe is often associated with raw alcohol. Never thought of it as an expensive taste so it's very useful to know.

Mind you I have a bottle of campari that I can never seem to finish either.

cheers

What a beautiful place Paris is, and the French.

Hi all, i discovered Demonland over the weekend and immediately signed up.

I live in South West France, near the beautiful Dordogne River. I've been a Melbourne supporter for more than 60 years. I attended the '64 Grand Final and still vividly remember the Gabelich and Crompton goals. I have been an overseas member for four years and watch every game on watchafl.

You’re very lucky Un fan de Demons. One of my favourite trips is taking the train from Paris through Bordeaux to San Sebastián.

I spent six years in Zambia, DRC and South Africa in the early noughties.

Back then it was the ‘Toyota AFL highlights’ on DSTV which was essentially two to three weeks delayed telecast of the round/s.

Most of the time, this was preferable over the dial up internet in 3rd wold ‘Efrica’.

Best thing as to have your own pill on hand and hunt down other Aussie expats who enjoyed a kick.

I have my own pill, the problem is every frikkin oval around here is covered in cow [censored].

The funny thing with baijuu is that the Chinese themselves often don't like it. It's drunk as a means of showing respect to your drinking partner by the very fact that you can keep it down.

Furthermore, it's usually skalled, not sipped. Often drinking is done irresponsibly over there and is a reason why beer is drunk in refrigerated (as Uncle Humphrey's adage about 'A Hard Earned Thirst' holds true).

Lived there for a year myself out in the back blocks. Great experience (though I was too immature to realize that at the time) and a real eye opener.

I'm based in Madrid for the next few years after moving here at the end of last year. Would be keen to catch up with any other Dees supporters to watch a few games if there are any here?!

It was such a good place to live, although on my last trip back it’s gone pretty bobo now. Isn’t Palaiseau on the RER B, if I remember correctly? Easy trip into town.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
