Day 2?   Two days of  the draft?  WTF is going on at the AFL.

I assumed the Live Tracker had stopped working and was stuck at pick 22.  What a circus Gil and the clowns are running.

It took more than two hours of drudgery to get through the first round thanks to the introduction of live trading of picks and the matching of bids. If they did the whole draft thing for another five or so rounds plus commercial breaks with clubs like Essendon and North always calling for extra time, they would finish in the wee early hours. I couldn’t stand waiting that long to find out who we picked with #ninety something.

I remember when I was a kid, the only way to find out the results of the draft for most meer mortals was the paper the next day.  Use to love going through it in The Age at grandma's place when I went around on the weekend.  Then few years back when they first started televising the draft it was a day time production and I recalled making sure I was home from work early so I could watch it all live on TV (those also being the days when the MFC had numerous picks in the first round).

Soon realized that the more old school way of finding out who we picked was much more entertaining.

Surely WC take Ian Hill?

Not sure why. I think it will be best available that is also useful.

Hill is a mirror of Cameron who WC get as a NGA. Don't need two, especially with Rioli, Ryan and Cripps already.

My guess is Valente. Midfield is still weaker than some others (Eddiewood, MFC, Hawks) and WC have a good record of recruiting Vic Country and SA boys and keeping them. Valente looks like a good lad with good leadership and as a guy and player very much in the Luke Shuey mould.

They may make an offer for Will Kelly as a developing KPD and he goes west or Eddiewood have to match. Never know, might do the same for Rhylee West or the GWS academy lad.

As things stand, we have the fourth and ninth picks after they start proceedings:-

END OF ROUND ONE

23 . West Coast

ROUND TWO

24. Adelaide
25. Sydney
26. Melbourne
27. Gold Coast
28. Greater Western Sydney
29. West Coast
30. Western Bulldogs
31. Melbourne

The three clubs ahead of us are non-Victorians. The Eagles could take Hill or Foley or maybe Stack. The Crows might be interested in Valente or McLennan. Not sure where Sydney would be looking. Perhaps they might go for a Victorian in Bytel.

There’s still plenty of talent there for us with our two next selections.

Also interesting was Knightmare’s views on O’Halloran - he didn’t have him (or Hill) in his top 50 power rankings albeit, he was a bit vague as to the reason.

Where's Twomey had O'Hallloran as our first pick in in his Phantom.

And no offense to the bloke but i don't rate knightmare at all. His power rankings over the years is actually quite laughable. Good on him for having a crack though...

Guys like Twomey are worth the read, as they properly watches and interviews these players from a young age and gets insights from club recruiters.

So the Eagles, Crows and Swans have a pick before us.

Eagles are very likely to pick Hill.

SA’s Valente looks to be the best mid available but watch Adelaide pick him before us.

Sydney are likely to pick a forward so I’m expecting them to pick Taylor or Williams.

Jason Taylor has hinted we will be targeting mids so unless we go leftfield we will likely pick two out of Foley, Stack, Kennerley, Hamill, Bytel Turner or McKenzie with our first two picks.

Of the above mentioned players, Stack, Kennerley, Hamill, Turner and McKenzie can play outside so would expect we pick at least one of them.

unlikely, given that they got blakey, who'll be their key forward once bud retires

they'll go midfield

Good point, had it in my head that Blakey was a mid like his old man.

Yes, they likely take a mid then so hopefully not the one we are targetting.

You can just imagine the marketing guys, cant you?

Marketing Man 1 'You know what people like? The grand final. That is the most watched game of the year'

Marketing Man 2: 'Yeah, you know what would be better? 3 grand finals!'

Marketing Man 1: 'Whoa! that would be so awesome! What do you think Gill?'

Gill: 'I dont give a [censored] about the game. Do what you want.'

Marketing Man 2: 'You know what sucks? The offseason. Why don't we expand the draft over 2 nights!'

Marketing Man 1: 'Yeah! Sick idea bro'

hee hee ... AND

Marketing Man 1 and 2: 'That'll be $400,00 for that idea Gill.'

Gill: Can I just invite you down to Portsea Polo?

For names alone I’d like to see Sparrow or Woodcock drafted to us.

Has Freddie Clutterbuck nominated this draft?

i like kennerly's highlights.. looks a likely lad. hard at it and good footskills. mature body too. also need some more speed/spark to add to the squad. surely hill won't be available. if the eagles pass on him, i can see the crows or swans taking him for sure. otherwise, stack looks electric! swans must have someone in particular in mind though, if they have traded up to their new position?.. intriguing. i'd be a bit disappointed with valente. too vanilla for mine.

Winners were

Tigers getting Collier-Dawkins. He is a top 7-10 rated player in my opinion. Can play straight away. I can compare him to the Bont.

and

Blues getting Walsh & Stocker.  Add them to Cripps, Dow and O’Brien and I see a strong young midfield to base the climb up the ladder.  Get it to Curnow and McGovern.

They'll grow to be stronger than us, in a couple of years.

We, have to pull some more talent this year.

It kind of hurts to have some great young players and be on the cusp of success and then to see Carlton and other clubs suddenly emerge with strong young lists that have so much potential.

I already have a brother-in-law Carlton fan who is already up and about. Please, [censored] off John.

It would be horrible to see some of these clubs go past us.  Enough to commit hari-kari.

I know, it is the way it is, equalization and all that.

Carlton are still rubbish. No defenders and no midfield depth. Cripps or Kreuzer get injured and Adelaide is getting Pick 1 next year.

We've been coming from further down than they were, Re our historical culture issues (near enough).

I grew up in a bluebagger dominated household.  I couldn't stand it.

Same as Saints, my suburb was Saints dominated, when I was at school.

Sick of it, and our Cosy, near enough, small thinking attitudes, from the top... our admins of the past 50 Yrs did not want 'IT'... anywhere near enough, to combat the lustful clubs.

Which became the power club.  They just did what it took to get it done.

They've been laying in the long grass...

I think you've been underestimating them.   2020 they will surge.

Guess, I just want the impossible dream.

A flag soon, and an all powerful MFC dominating the opposition for years to come.
