Did you switch from having an IQ3 box to IQ4?

Yes I did switch as there is no 4k on IQ3, you must have IQ4. Do not pay for upgrade, threaten to cancel if they do not do a free upgrade.

Edit: I have heard that some of the last IQ3's are actually IQ4's with the 4k turned off.

One rather annoying problem (for me at least) is the inability to view a replay of a game part way through then come back later to where you left off. Rather,  the replay starts back at the beginning, and the fast forward function is very slow!!! Surely this is something the tech people at Kayo could fix? Quite frustrating!

Thanks mate, you answered what was going to be my next question.

On my Apple TV, you can play from start, then pause and slide the green dot to any point in the game within a few seconds and then hit play again.  That’s how I go back to where I was up to.

Yes, used VPN for foxtel now last year, assuming Kayo would be the same

It 100% works with a VPN. I was in the middle of the forest in Finland and watched with the VPN

when you stream to your TV are you getting 4k quality (where the show is shot in 4k such as F1) and do you have buffering problems. And one more.. what is your broadband speed.

Many thanks

the problem is that in these days of multi platforms etc fault diagnosis becomes so hard.

Just bought a fancy new soundbar... can get it do everything except play from my TV which is the main reason I bought it. And of course the TV is wall mounted with cables in the brick wall so just changing plugs is almost impossible. Have been learning about HDMI Arc but so far no luck !!!

Upgraded my internet speed yesterday to 500Mbs (only getting around 300Mbs so I will need to have a chat with the ISP) but the Kayo streaming was wonderful last night and for the tennis this morning.

Getting used to the remote on the Nvidia Shield has been a challenge but I think I am getting close to mastering it. I think it's well designed with only a few buttons but it is very different.

yep... not looking forward to returning to my adsl in Melbourne in a few months time. About the same speed as yours.

Supposed to get NBN around August ... for the price I get 500Mbs here plus another A$20 here I can have a whole 25Mbs in Melbourne.  Will probably go the 100Mbs plan from Aussie broadband at $100 a month (here the price would be $33 for 100Mbs) and who said Australia's internet prices are world competitive !!

Try VPN Melon also.  Used it to break through the great firewall of China when visiting last year with great success and it's free.  Has auto fastest server option or you can hunt around and trial your own country for speed and see what results you get.

I set up Kayo last weekend after turning my Foxtel box on for the first time since last footy season to find it dead. I’m used to watching footy in SD due to being too cheap to pay to upgrade the already excessively expensive subscription (and I hate that threatening their customer service people is the only way to get reasonable deals), so this was a nice improvement. Reckon this service is more than good enough to justify cancelling my regular Foxtel subscription - it’s actually better. The only downside I can see is it introduces a dependency on my NBN connection which can occasionally crack the shits - if that happens I could watch on my 4G phone service. The likelihood of both being down is unlikely enough to more than justify the reduced expenditure.

Nice of Fox to finally join us in the 21st century!

I got Kayo yesterday and so far it’s great. Get to watch so many international sports now that Ch7, 9 and 10 just haven’t even heard of.

i never wanted Foxtel because of the 45 channels of nothing on the you have to get before you can even look at the sports and movie channels.

i might even watch footy on it sometime.

Foxtel published its take up rate for Kayo over the weekend.

It is 209,000 subscribers. Not sure if this included the free trial subscribers.

Having now returned from overseas where I used it extensively I have hot a bit of a hurdle with low broadband speed but with luck the mythical nbn should be in my area by the end of the year.

My main complaint would be that the channel 7 feed does take away from the value proposition.

On the other hand the F1 with the Sky racing feed is great (if only the races were more exciting.)

Game of thrones finishes next week which does not leave many must see cable programs on Foxtel.

On the present Kayo subscription level that is revenue of $60M per annum which is clearly not enough for sustainability without cross subsidisation.

So one year on I am happy with Kayo and even with the occasional non footy season use.. tennis, rugby T 20 etc.

I see that Foxtel withdrew from bidding for the new rugby rights. A small crack but I can see a lot of the "fringe sports" being squeezed on their next re negotiation.

Cannot see how Foxtel can make Kayo stand up revenue wise in the long term unless they see it simply as a revenue add on model to the Foxtel "box" product which of course uses sport as a loss leader.

Let's assume there are 12 M households (10M dwellings at last census) and the take up rate is 50% which would be massive.

That's 6M multiplied by $25 x 12 + annual revenue of $1.8 billion.

That amount barely pays for the AFL and NRL. So who pays for the other sports not to mention the cost of running the service etc.

Cannot see why any of the other big streaming services would take it up as the customer base just isn't there.

Of course the unknown is advertising. Read somewhere that Google now controls over 50% of the ad buy so perhaps there is room for getting into that space.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
