The AFL let it be known that MFC would be getting a bigger share of Friday night games next year, but the only 2 we are so far aware of, are both away games. I can see it now, 3 more Friday night games against interstate teams. Lock it in Eddie.

Its going to take some very sweet fixturing for us to have a decent year revenue-wise with our 2 biggest games making us nothing.

At the very least we have earned a prime-time home game against Essendrug. Its time for others to fill the Sunday arvo slots.

Perhaps I've missed something but what is the other Friday night game you think we have locked in?

Sorry DL, i was Factoring in the Anzac eve game which obs isnt a Friday night, but Primetime just the same. Sydney game Rd 2 is the other i was thinking of. I should have just said "Night game".

would have got a 30k crowd at least for this match at the MCG if not more.

The idea that it would be loss making holds no water any more unless we are talking of Gold Coast or Freo.

NT just makes no sense from so many angles.

These games should be reserved for us to play poor drawing clubs like GC, Freo, GWS, Lions, games where we would struggle to draw 25,000, as you say we would probably get a crowd in excess of 30,000 at the G and I'd say that we would get closer to 50,000 next year. The only reason I can see this as being ok is if we get a game at the G against Essendon, as a home game, and this is the trade off.

I would've thought one of Pert's first gigs on the job would've been to ensure we keep Q'bday as our home game until the following season.

We're already missing out on a ton of gate receipts as the away team on Anzac Eve.

Perhaps we have some blockbuster home Friday night games to offset the Queens Birthday loss of revenue??

Let’s see if Pert has much pull when the fixture is released.  Hope Bartlett got this one right!

Listening to Jackson talk, Jackson was very quiet when asked if he endorse,s Pert!!!  Basically side stepped the question.

What Eddy wants Eddy gets. It is no surprise that we have lost the Queens Birthday. We have over time made this into a marquee match with high exposure and great revenue potential of course Eddy now wants it. Let them throw it in with all the other benefits Collingwood seem to be given. While we are out it let them go to Geelong or play a Sunday night game. No that will not happen because Eddy doesn’t want it

You've got to remember we're transitioning out of the pokies business. You don't then strip away other financial winners, without having a strong revenue stream to replace it.

I'd like to know what the multiple angles are that don't make it work. IMO we need to be a little bit less precious about this as supporters. If we've got a decent football side they will win that game and it's an advantage playing a team up there who have never played up there. We make much more money on this game than we would if 30,000 turned up to the G.

There's still a strong case to keep playing the NT games. At least for the short to mid term future. 2022-2025 we can start thinking about alternative revenue streams. Hopefully by that stage we've built a powerhouse and we no longer need these NT games, but don't hold your breath.

This may not go down well for some but I think it's a good idea.

With the Pies wanting to start alternating home games again for the QB game, how about we move 'The Big Freeze' to a game against Essendrug instead? Obviously this year as our home game to start with. Ok with you Ed?

Yep playing the MND/Daniher match against Essendon seems the sensible and obvious thing to do. Could become as big as QB and Anzac Eve. I don’t know why it hasn’t happened as it benefits all parties.

We're in a fight for survival with nine other Melbourne clubs. At present we sit in the bottom 4 with North, Saints, Bulldogs and ourselves.

Survival means exposure in the main markets and NT doesn't deliver that in any meaningful way.

If it was so good to play up there I think there might be a few other clubs going for the silver arrow but no one wants to grab the nettle.

Memberships expand and contract at geometric rather than arithmetic rates. By 2025 assuming we grow by 20% we will be around 70,000 members less than Richmond if they grow at the same rate.

Great idea.

Except Eddie will throw the toys out of the cot and demand a new queens birthday partner. And the AFL will roll over to him.

Essendon's fixture:

They will feature in nine Thursday and Friday night games, as well as playing Good Friday, Anzac Day, the Dreamtime at the ‘G clash and the Country game against Geelong.

Assume the week before we will get either a Thursday or Friday night game. Otherwise we will have a 5 day break!

There's a Herald Sun article on how the whole season's crowds and TV ratings hinge on Essendon being awesome. Will probably be gifted the flag.

Could be a Friday night game in Melbourne for us in round 3 if we’re playing Thursday in round 4.

No way the AFL would give us a 5 day break and a 4 day break in the one month...

We can't have both. The 4 day break will mean all others have to be 6 days or more.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
