Come on WYL you have jumped the shark on this one.

No i have not. My stance has not changed.

If Freo want to buy Hogan they pay Top $$ or [censored] off

Quite simple. Key Forwards are hard to find and we should know. In 160 seasons we have NEVER had a 100 goal kicker.

Hogan hasn’t peaked yet...

So pay ? up or leave.

And if you are wrong you will have Peter Bell as your avatar for a year.

I'm worried about this increasing trend on Demonland.  I literally cringe, and move immediately to the next post, as soon as Dr.D's avatar appears on my screen.  ?

If Jesse ends up staying it will be business as usual and he and the club will move on and get on with it.  If he wants that next big long term contract wherever that might be,  he'll need to perform whenever he sets foot on the ground.

I can easily deal with either outcome.  Like it or not,  players are now commodities and commodities can be sold off or kept as assets. Either/or.  No emotion,  no drama,  no attachment - sell or keep.  Like it is with numerous individuals in sport the World over.  Loyalty is a 2-way street.

So it might be time for a few to take some old-school chill pills ...

I can never understand why statements like this are made. A player can only walk away if he doesn't plan on playing or earning an income for the duration of the rest of the contract.

He can certainly request a trade at any stage, as can the club, but without a three way agreement the only alternative for the player is to stand out from playing.

Having a contract doesn't mean you can't request a change, but it does mean you can't make a unilateral decision to change. If Hogan or anybody else didn't have a contract the club would have less leverage with that player and in this case Freo.

Players who are 1 year into the system are requesting trades to specific clubs.

Contracts are worthless if a player wants to go.

All players are now free agents, i knew it would happen when Free Agency started.

Luke Ball set a precedent, it has just evolved from that

That is an opinion, not a fact.

Contracts mean absolutely nothing now.

Who cares if a player signs an extension for 3 years. They just walk anyway...

i have no problem with Jesse. Infact I sympathize with him for what he has gone through in the last 18 months.

Are both of your balls fit and healthy??

Jesus christ what a load of crap.As if hes the only 1 in the world who has had a health scare (and thats all it was because he's over it). Everyone's parents die so i just cant buy that garbage.Jesse is just playing the game & leaving everyone else to speculate & creare drame just like the Dockers are doing.Obviously hes not man enough to front the media or put out a statenent either way. But does it mean just because you have a health scare that renders you completely useless in making a choice or any other decision in your life? If his nuts dont work how would Freo help that?

Nor does he sound keen to be a Docker.  He looks totally unenthused.    But it's just his usual demeanour.   If that was a clip of him arriving from Perth thinking of joining the MFC, a MFC supporter suffering from MFCSS would despair of him playing for the Demons.  While you may be right, you are reading far too much into that clip.

I’m reading that a guy currently playing at a top club with premiership aspirations and an attacking style of footy suited to forwards is VERY open to being traded to a shite club with a dour defensive minded coach with little hope of playing finals for at least the next three years.

Am I wrong?

Not true at all.If they are contracted they have no out,as his current club doesn't have to accomodate a trade or other. They still get played but play them in the ressies where their value goes down & no club will offer the same. All other sports do it,just that the AFL are years behind

Whole afl trade system & early picks, free trade etc is flawed. Just become like the epl etc buy & sell players ..  at least when clubs lose a good striker they get paid his worth & then the club can buy other players to fill their gaps in their list ..  Afl want equalisation with players wanting to move whenever & club of choice .. can’t have both!

Rjay, this and everything else I have ever said on Demonland is info I have heard directly, usually it’s from the club sometimes it’s from friends in the player management game.  If you don’t want to believe what I write don’t, you have every right to believe what ever you want.

Player managers call each other everyday to test the market to see if a targeted player may be able to be seduced. NM did enquire about Oliver with a massive deal, the truth is they are probably not the only club to have made an enquire. It happens all the time. It means nothing. Only a small percentage of these make the media.  I don’t make this stuff up.

As for others on here that abuse me for saying what I hear. Get a life. Until this, I have never responded to your insults, I am entertained you waste so much of your time trying to discredit me.  The abuse I received for telling you after R5 2013 that Neeld was soon to be fired and Roos was locked in as our coach in 2014, or the abuse for letting you know Clark was coming out of retirement but would not play for MFC, we were “blindsided”, or that we were looking to trade out Pick 2 in 2013.  I could go on.  Each time I cop abuse.  Its extraordinary.

One last thing which continuously comes up. 4 years ago I never said we were getting Dangerfield, I only said Roos had made a play for him, which was true.

Keep posting, most of us enjoy it.

If a player wants to go now, they go 99 times in 100

A contract is no more than a handshake, they are broken regularly

that’s what free agency is

A mate who actually spoke with Lachie on Friday.

Obviously it is dependent on the Bell-end but the feeling was it's pretty much finalised.

The Hogan deal I was assuming. I highly doubt the Dockers will want to lose Neale without a 'big fish' to show to their supporters.

Fair enough and thanks for replying.

I hope Hogan stays. In fact, I hope both he and May are playing for the MFC in 2019 but I just don’t see that happening.

Riled up by Freo’s nakedly stupid actions I hope the club no longer indulges them at the trade table. Perhaps this is why I’m not employed in Josh Mahoney’s position - why let personal emotion get in the way of a business decision?

I feel for Hogan and his personal circumstances and personally hold no ill will toward him but can equally understand other posters frustrations about him exploring a trade/not committing to MFC.

Gut feel is that the deal will get done. Freo will crow about their negotiating tactics. Some, including myself will feel a bit disappointed that we didn’t get ‘Judd-like’ compensation for Hogan. However, our professional team will have achieved their objective: trading out a player who wanted to go, getting in Steven May who will improve team balance and wants to play for us, along with an improved draft hand.

Melbourne will look like a club that gets it done and cares for players welfare which will enhance our brand in the industry. Freo will be exposed for the anachronistic spivs they are.

Haha, to be fair it's until round 1 of next season. I believe that was the bet Binman? Also, Peter Bell would be worse

Yes, but please state the nature of the source in the first place.    Admittedly anyone can make up an unnamed source, but at at least it's something - at least it's an indication that the poster is not just stating his own hunch.

Edited by sue

If Jesse doesn’t go this trade period and I hope he doesn’t, every media event next year will make his life a never ending circus with questions and speculation.

Maybe even if he has said to the FD that he wants out next year, he could be persuaded to sign a (three year) contract extension to keep the dogs away in 2019 with the FD agreeing that they will enter negotiations this time next year.

This would give him a calm footy environment for the year and place the club in a (more) sound negotiating position instead of the frantic mess we are currently witnessing.

Supposition but could be a reasonable interim outcome

We should have a poll on who thinks he is gone and who thinks he stays

I've read all 329 pages and I'm convinced he's doing both.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
