Hope Neale sits out a year if they donโ€™t trade himย

Sitting out a year is the Fremantle way of playing football.

Sylvia, McCarthy, Bennell... Lyon...

ย

Bell and Freo are in the classic bind, lose Neald to get Hogan, means a weaker midfield to gain a stronger forward line... and as we know without a quality midfield the best forwards in the league wonโ€™t win you games of footy.ย

We should have anticipated this (as should have Hogan and his manager).ย

Core question for me is WHY? Why does Hogan want to leave usย as we set up to play finals and have a realistic crack at immortality to go to a crappy Freo?ย

Why?ย

I wonder if Freo have convinced Neale to stay. Just a thought.ย

Neale thought Freo were being big hearted and were looking after his interests.

Now he realises they struggle to tie their own shoelaces.

Lachie, there are phone numbers you can call to help you through this.

For giggles.ย  This from a post on webleedpurple - note the date:

So we didn't get Hogan this time?ย  Well, it wasn't for the lack of trying by Brad Lloyd and his team.ย

Iโ€™m not sure what people are talking about with other clubs, it was Freo or us. Freo have overplayed their hand and I hope Jesse and hisย manager are so angry that they tell them to get fโ€”ked and not call again.ย

Bellโ€™s a proper idiot.ย

We need to say nothing, don't inflame the situation and hope Freo or Brisbane do the Neale deal. Then straight on the phone with a promise that all will be forgiven if they give us pick 5 and the future 2nd rounder.

As long as that all happens with more than an hour left we'll get May and come up happy.

Freo are using their leverage. Good luck to them. Not sure I'd be going this hard but I'd be doing similar.

Can't go back we'd look silly.

So no Neale, no Hogan, Taberner &ย McCarthy leading their forward line again and RTB sitting in the coach box. No wonder their membership renewal emails are telling current members there are plenty of seats to upgrade to, they will be haemorrhaging members after the season theyโ€™ve just had, this debacle and WCE winning the flag. Absolute disaster for that club.

now is the time to cuddle up to young Jesse and sign him for four years at $800-900k

that's what a Hawthorn ... the family club... would do

Wouldn't they pop him on the trade table for Wingard? ;)

part of it would undoubtedly be big spondulaks on a lonnng contract

Short term solution. Hogan wonโ€™t be at Melbourne beyond 2019

I would have thought that too but 'the chart has flipped' as GW would say. Freo have professed their love to Jessie for years, he finally does something about it and in effect they reject him. From what I've seen and heard about Jesse that will hurt him deeply and that little Freo fan inside him just might be gone. He knows he is loved at Melbourne and that love is tangible. I wouldn't be surprised if he re-signs long term with us now. I certainly hope so.

History books don't care about which clubs look silly. They care about the wins and losses and if the opportunity still exists before Wednesday to turn Hogan in to May and something then we have to do it.

AFL website's poll currently split as to whether it really all off, or this is a ruse by Fremantle.ย

So thread page 300 is still on the cards!

chase Jesse for the last 6 years including before he was at Melbourneย

offer him a truckload if cashย

get him over there for the tour for four hoursย

get his hopes up, finally convince him to join them.ย

And then only low ball us but make an offer they know we wonโ€™t accept and refuse to budge. Itโ€™s insulting to us and especially to Jesse.ย

Perhaps I could be convinced otherwise but right now I feel that Hogan is far too good in the forward line to be thrown back...

Just like TMac is too good a backman to go forward? Itโ€™s all about the needs of the team

There are 3 logical possibilities:

1. Freo are idiots

2. Freo is holding out for a last minute deal with us

3. There is something about Hogan that is not public; injury or whatever.

I'm not sure 1. is proved yet and it's a mistake to assume your opponent is an idiot.ย  No 2. seems most likely.ย ย

Freo are an absolute rabble. Cannot believe that, after how many years of chasing a genuine star key forward, they finally convince one to join them and then pull this. Whether it is a negotiating tactic or not, it is completely baffling. They have no idea what they are doing.

Where is he going?ย  Surely the Freo bridge is burnt now.

I get that this saga has pi55ed you off, but there's an opportunity to get around him and make him feel at home.

It's not about looking silly

It's about winning Premierships.

You only look silly when you realise you didn't do what you could.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
