first post in years. looks like we will have to get a deal done, a work colleague, she's a big dees fan, who's brother was in Bali with Jesse, from WA, good mates,  Jesse has said to him he will not sign a new deal with Melbourne if he isn't traded, he will walk end of next year, Freo are aware of this too, they just think his demands are too high. Sad really. So will it force us to take unders? Or Hold tight?  seems determined to go home.

The word of someone who hasn't posted in year's work-colleague's brother. Sounds reliable.

Thanks Tarzan.

This confirms what I’ve been saying. Freo and Hogan have a handshake deal for him to return to Perth in 12 months.

Unless Melbourne capitulate and accept massive unders now for Hogan (11 & steak knives), Bell is going to keep pick 5 in the superdraft and collect him out of the bargain bin next year.

Dees are going to get stiffed here. Freo are going to have their cake and eat it too and we’ve  got a wantaway,, uncommitted forward on our hands for another year.

Plus we don’t get May. What a bummer!

when all the dust has settled on this. I would like the club to tell us the truth why

1.Hogan wanted to leave?

2.Why the club made no genuine attempt to keep him?

No, you have been saying there is no chance of a deal, that Freo aren’t interested.

Also, Brisbane no longer have pick 5

For all Mahoney's talk of being happy to keep Jesse unless we get a deal up there with the best ever, we are about to capitulate and trade out the best young key forward in the game for significant unders, while in the premiership window. So frustrating and disappointing. For all the rubbish Bell has copped, he has actually done a bloody good job for his football club. Mahoney could actually learn a few things from him with regards to playing hardball.

Harsh. This is a game of poker where Hogan has told Bell what cards Mahoney is holding. It's a lot easier to play hardball when you already know the guy isn't going to renew and you don't have to pay extra to lure him out.

Why do we deserve to know private information about one of the players?

May, KK and pick 23 would be an OK result IMO. Only because Jesse doesn't want to be there. I'd expect May to push for AA and play 100 games, KK could be a bargain and pick 23 is a good hand for JT to play with. I wouldn't willingly trade Jesse for that price though.

Freo just got pick 6 back again? Port now hold pick 5, so have got their high pick to draft an SA kid.

So it'll now be 6+23/30 got Hogan?

*Edit to pick 6. What’s the diff.

I have said Freo either aren’t interested or are playing funny buggas to get him next year cheaply. I’ve been totally consistent on this.

You seem nervous I’m going to be right. Getting a bit jittery there RGRS? Deadline day can do that to you!

The fact he won't renew is irrelevant. He won't be a free agent next year, so Freo would still have to trade for him or risk us pushing him to the draft or negotiating with West Coast.

Bell has played hard ball with Neale even though Neal has said he will walk next year. It can still be done.

1. That doesn't need to be public consumption - we don't deserve to know why, it's irrelevant.

2.The genuine attempt to keep someone begins from day one of entry into the club... and if someone STILL doesn't want to be there, then it's not because of the genuine attempts...

Absolutely. Bell is no genius, he's been handed a sweet set of cards - all he has to do is sit tight and not stuff it up. I think Mahoney is playing this about as well as he can given the circumstances.

Still looks fine to be - If 6 is acceptable to GCS for May and KK it doesn't matter that it isn't #5.  Whatever gets the deal done.

Tell us how they are going to get him cheaply next year.

Why try and judge the performance of Mahoney or Bell or any of those involved until we see the final result?  For all the posturing of Bell and diplomacy of Mahoney, the result may very well turn out to be a fair one.

Nervous about what?

Even if you are proven right (which won’t happen), I am not fussed, they will still have to trade for him next year

Port just got picks 15, 35 and Burton for wingard with a pick swap at the back in Hawthorn's favour.

Given Burton would have been worth a first rounder alone, it seems they are going to get a significantly better deal for Wingard than we get for Hogan.

I must have read about 50 posts today about us getting 'shafted' or 'bent over' (bingo must be going crazy today @binman), but have I missed something? The day is not done, and the deal has not been finalised. It would be great if we could wait it out (the FD won't, and shouldn't, be working off hyperbolic comments made here, I trust them to do what's right for the club, as their recent record is good), then determine whether we think it was right.

And even then, it won't matter as long as we can plug a hole in the list (May, KK) and anyone else will be a bonus.

Which demonlander on trade radio right now? Discussing how Melbourne have been reduced from 5/6 to 5/23/30 to 5/23, Twomey saying we've lost our bargaining power because we're happy to see him go if we can get other deals done.

Agreed if Hogan has made it clear that he will not be at Melbourne beyond 2019.

Mahoney is between a rock and a hard place.

So I would not judge him on the Hogan scenario.

The best deal possible depends entirely on what other parties want or are prepared to give up.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
