The way I read it is that May's camp has said that he wants to be traded, and GCN are saying to all clubs we are listening.

They still know that Melbourne probably the best option based on having the best picks to offer and want the player. May would just be waiting for the Neale deal to kick it off... not really that much in the statement.

The Demons not even mentioned by Cameron despite Mahoney’s previous very public declaration of our interest.

Clear shift away from Melbourne. Suns open to all viable offers now that the Hogan trade looks dead and buried.

My "gut feel" is very different to Range Rover's.

80/20 he'll be in purple next year.

....okaaay if thats how you interpret it

No club was mentioned. But the only thing Cameron has actually told anyone is that they are prepared to trade him to whoever gives them the best offer. Melbourne are still best placed *IF* the Neale & Hogan trades actually eventuate.

I find you highly amusing.

How them tea leaves going?

Admittedly its just possibly my read on the situation but I cant help but think a lot of folk are misconstruing the nature of pick 5 and May.

Mahoney has been quite candid in saying we need the hogan trade in order to get May..There after everyone , bar a few simply assume pick 5 is THE price for May.

Its not how I read it at all. The Hogan trade delivers a goodly 1st pick ( and maybe change )..So for sake of argument lets call that pick 5. Yes pick % is INSTRUMENTAL in securing May as GC want that pick...but its not the price paid as such as I believe we will get more than May for 5 and there is probably still some trade off of picks as well.

Pick 5 is part of the deal...not ALL of it...imho

The winner receives a trophy of a golden microscope hovering over golden tea leaves.

Deal?

That's not how I read the situation. It seems that May wants out at all costs prior to 2019 and will go to the Dees if the Hogan/Neale trade eventuates but if that trade falls over then he will play anywhere as long as it's in Melbourne (city) and not Gold Coast.

So what happens if May goes to Footscray whilst we offload Hogan?

Plan C...?

This is all taking far too long and has the potential to leave us in a very precarious position, which may be exactly how Freo are pushing this.

We the MFC should be pushing them, as it is them who have no forwards.

If May becomes a dog, we need Hogan for next year...

We’d need pick 1 for him. Absolute beast defender.

I’d be hoping Rankine slides to 5.

GC won't do that, not until the moment it's clear we won't be trading Hogan.  They would look silly if they traded him for Pick 7 and a few hours later we had Pick 5.   Plus May will want to wait as it's still clear we are his first preference.

But, I see what you mean.  If he is legit happy to play anywhere if he has to, then it puts a little extra pressure on us to get the deal done.  I don't see it as a major issue though.

I read that he is quite aware that the Hogan/Freo link has most likely fallen through (at least for this trade period).

Demons not a focus now for the Suns re May.

Craig Cameron is a straight shooter and a very smart operator - no doubt he and Mahoney have a range of in principle deals ready to execute as soon as Freo get their shiit together.

Pick 7 and extra picks could get it done, if we are still deadlocked.

I just do not like all eggs in one basket. Rule 1 in how not to do trading business.

The big problem here is that we are all dependant on mother [censored] Freo, the most useless football club in Australia.

We've been waiting for a week for them to get things sorted, and here we are, a day out, and they haven't even traded Neale who wants to leave them, for which they already have a good deal on the table from Brisbane.

Think you may find, the GC have ample picks this year at the top of the order and are looking to try and bank picks for next year when they will have the start of a number of elite academy players start to come through. While they May still want Pick 5 for May (lots of May's), they will then look to either turn this into picks next year or look for a group of Future picks instead of taking pick 5 into next years draft to lift the points they have available for academy players. How they do that remains to be seen, but one thing I can guarantee is they want picks next year! Apparently their Academy squad at junior levels is pretty darn good, coming from far more informed sources than I on the subject of scouting and recruiting.

There is a strong argument for slamming the door shut on Freo Last Friday night and renegotiating new tearms with GC. If we get blind sided and Freo get their key forward i will be in a foul mood

The fact May has just said he is happy to go to 'Any Victorian Club' means we are in competition for his services and will need to give up pick 5, should we receive it.

You're acting as though we have other options and are not exploring them.

We can only deal with what we've got.  We don't have a first rounder, and if that's what GC want for May, we're doing what we can to get one in to do the deal.  We don't have a huge amount of bargaining power, and it's not as though we can just pull a pick out of our [censored] to make a deal happen.

Any chance the Dees will get pick 5, and then instead of giving it to the Suns, trade it up to a higher pick? Say, 1, 2, 3 or 4, similar to what we did with (I think) Oliver and Weid?

The real question is why are you still waiting for them when they so clearly and adamantly pulled out of negotiations for Hogan last week?

Why are so many on here living in Dee-nial about this.

Some clubs are being affected by the Neale deal hold up, yes. The Demons aren’t one of them.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
