2019 Membership

In a way, it is a little early to start this thread but 2019 memberships will open soon.  I thought while our finals success and ticketing experience is fresh in our minds it is a good time for folks to think about their membership.

Certainly, for me it was quite enlightening to learn what different membership categories mean for access to Finals tickets.  (And amusing to watch us all staggering around in the dark not knowing what to do to negotiate the process or Ticketek.  It was fun sharing it with everyone on here).

The main things I learnt:

  1. Three game or better membership had the same priority eligibility to Finals weeks 1 - 3.
  2. For the Grand Final it all changes.  Broadly the categories were:
  • Ballot:  Priority 1 - Memberships with the Grand Final Guarantee (GFG) included or added on (plus some other categories)
  • Ballot:  Priority 2 - 11 Home Game or better memberships without GFG (plus some other categories)
  • Ballot:  Priority 3 - All other memberships

The odds of Priority 3 being allocated GF tickets seemed quite low.  I think, the AFL sets the broad eligibility rules so the above may change for 2019.

For 2019, I assume the memberships with the GFG  will sell out fast as the number sold is capped and people that already have it get first choice to keep it.   At the risk of the membership team being inundated with early calls, I was able to upgrade my niece's 3 game membership to a Redlegs membership late last week (same row but not to sit together; wait listed for that).

I will post the link to Memberships when I see it on the club website.

A couple of other thoughts:

  • This isn't the thread for posters to criticise supporters asking for barcodes etc - 2018 caught us all by surprise so cut them some slack, especially the country and interstate folk
  • This isn't the thread to complain about Ticketek or the AFL ticketing policies.
  • Maybe the mods could pin this for a while so that new info can easily be found.

One final thing:   What an outstanding job the Membership Team did.  It all went without a hitch which is no easy task the first time a new project is undertaken by a team in any organisation.  Kudos to Tracey and her team for the work, time and energy they put in to making our lives as straight forward as possible.

Sorry for my apparent ignorance, but if you buy a GFG, why are you going into a ballot (which is what I read from the above).

I'm interstate so will Armchair it - if we're tracking OK I may upgrade to the GFG (assuming they're available)

From memory Trident and Redleg members get priority access to Grand Final tickets as part of their membership, Don't know the number but at a guess 5-10,000 members would be in these two packages.  So the balance would be allocated to GFG and any spare would be first in basis

I think the ballot is to allocate the seating (but not sure) and the cost varies according to the seat.

It may be worth checking the cost diff between the Armchair and 3-game.  The former doesn't have member priority finals ticket access which could be important for smaller grounds or i/state grounds.

I upgraded to GFG seating from my interstate membership and being on the dedicated demon payment plan, the club has already advised me that 2019 will now cost $377 - not too bad I thought. Particularly now that I'm in the line ahead of what might become an avalanche of members upgrading in years to come. I just think it's a no-brainer if you want to watch the GF live.

I also think it's worth noting that this finals thing we're suddenly a part of is bloody expensive and being an interstate member, even moreso given the September airline rort.

Next years family budget of the McQueen household has been tweaked already.

Thanks, noted.

I had planned on trying to get #1 child to his first Demons game at Metricon or the Gabba (we're 90 mins south of Metricon) but will depend on draw.

Otherwise a QBW trip for Dees V Pies might be on cards with a cheeky little Mt Buller trip so #1 can see snow. Or else I'll just wait for finals.

Might have a peek when they're out and u/g to 3 game. We'll see.

Fortunately I can fly from OOL or Ballina so the holiday market tends not to be affected so much by the GF. But we'll see. I might time a visit for GF well in advance and if nothing else head to Buller for a day so #1 can see snow.

Even Priority 1 holders need to register their interest and confirm a seat, they are guaranteed to get one so it’s not a ‘ballot’ in that sense, but there would be a few people who paid for a Priority 1 membership who for whatever tragic reason can’t make the GF, which I suppose is why they are not just allocated automatically.

Hey McQueen,

The $377 m assuming that is on top the interstate membership cost? (mine was $145 this year).

If so I will prob do the same.

Interstate next year is $148. I'm guessing Grand Final Guarantee is $229? Might do that too.

There is no way that 3 game memberships should have priority access to finals tickets. I understand why these memberships exist, but entry to 3 regular season games should be the extent of the benefits.

I was really hoping criticism of the policies didn't happen here and we could keep the conversation to the membership options available for people to work out what suits them best.

The club tries to cater for all types of members: near and far; well off and not so well off.  If you aren't happy with the membership/ticket rules write to the club and or the AFL.

Correct. The early bird offer was $229 and the standard cost was $299 but I was eligible for the early bird right through which I’m guessing had something to do with length of membership.

Some people like myself spend thousands of dollars each year flying to Melbourne and other capital cities to watch the team play.

Out of interest Lucifer, which bays are the reserved seating for Redlegs? I have an unreserved Redleg membership and normally sit Level 2 M3-M4 but I think I can sit anywhere from M1-M4.

Cheers

I don't really know.  For the last 18 years my Redleg seats have been in Level 2 N8.  Now that I have upgraded my niece to Redleg they are in Level 2 N6 (same row, wait listed to be together).

So, I assume Redlegs are level 2.  When the MFC memberships open there is often an MCG map showing the Reserved, Redlegs and Trident areas.  Or I am sure the membership dep't would be happy to answer,

Rang the membership office today to upgrade my auto renew thingy from 3 game (went to 8 games plus both mcg finals this year) to all home games membership. Last few years work has made it difficult for me to get to many games but that’s settled down a heap this year. Looking forward to a ripping 2019!!!

Because we made a prelim. And made it whilst being one of the youngest (in age and average games played) teams each week.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
