How has Cripps got 17 votes in a team that's won 2 games for the year?

Was going to say the same thing, how does Cripps keep getting votes in games when his team loses by over than 10 goals????

i don’t care if he played well, you can’t tell me there aren’t at least 3 players who played better than him to make the team who actually won win the game!

The same way Tom Mitchell is Brownlow favourite; he racks up dozens of cheap, useless possessions every game and that puts him high up the stat sheet at the end of the game (when these clueless umpires decide which midfielder to award votes).

Listen to Gil speed through the last two rounds. Come on Max, get more votes than Grundy.

Well at least the umps know that Angus Brayshaw is a star.

The most entertaining aspect of this award night is watching the reactions on the players faces.

Brayshaw a surprise.

So can we just talk about how Gus just came third in the Brownlow...

Holy smokes

He missed the first 4 games, wow what a Star!!

Great effort Gus as he had the head knock issues . Great effort Max .

Well done, Gussy, Clarry and Gawny. Some outrageous polling and clearly still a midfielder's award.

To finish third is a terrific effort for Gus. Imagine if he'd played the entire season.

Tom Mitchell, what an arrogant [censored]. At least, he'll be bald very soon.

Angus Brayshaw 21 votes 3rd

amazing story  what a comeback year

Max Gawn 20 votes - equal 4th

big Max  too many 2s  gets a few more 3s in my view and could have got 26-27 with more umpire acknowledgment

how did Cripps get votes when the Blues list games by over 100 points!!!

Mitchell seems pretty humble.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
