Real insight into the inner details of trying to get Stewy Dew to the club as Roosy's successor. Only to turn down the offer and pave the way for none other then our beloved coach Simon Goodwin

https://coupler.foxsports.com.au/api/v1/article/amp/afl/afl-finals-2018-the-sliding-doors-moment-in-a-secret-melbourne-board-meeting-that-led-to-simon-goodwins-new-role/news-story/3a3e4c782e916091e0c4a8df3df5b7d0?__twitter_impression=true

Dew has never impressed me all that much when I've heard him speak. Admittedly, he's overseeing a basket-case of a club and any positivity is in very short supply.

From an image perspective (and I mean this with best intent) he needs to trim down himself because I believe that will provide a healthy layer of leadership cred that the Suns need. Watching Goodwin get physically involved in training is a huge variable in fostering friendships and the culture we now have.

It's pretty hard to do that when you're morbidly obese.

Wonderful read.

I reckon Goody is the right guy! (last time I'll reference that ridiculous thread I promise)

Stuart Dew looks like he is about to have a heart attack every time i see him on TV ?

Coaching the $un$ would not be a very rewarding occupation.

He doesn't present the best old Dewwy.

How can a player respect a Coach/man manager preaching all the things that he neglects.

I do like a coach that is still in good physical shape and prepared to do what he asks his troops at training.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but i seem to recall that shortly after he arrived at MFC, Goodwin was top 2 or 3 for bench press incl players.

And that was just using his forehead creases. 30kg an eyebrow, I hear.

Speaking of coaches still in top physical shape, anyone else note Cross in the recovery pool during roaming Brian last week. Insanely ripped still. It took me a moment to realise it wasn't a player - an especially fit player at that.

Yeah.

^^^ This, I was always worried about missing out on Dew, but have to say now there is a question mark when you see his shape. Of the finalists - Buckley/Simpson/Goodwin/Hardwick they all look to have terrific rigs, certainly worth respect, I wouldn't mind paying to see Goodwin Vs Buckley go at it on the weights. Clarkson carries himself well too, I reckon aerobically he'd even shade Goodwin, then again maybe not. Overall I would say we have the fittest coach in the current list (Buckley can't run because of his hamstrings).

Thoughts on other coaches (I wonder if there is any correlation between the coaches fitness and how the team is going, Leigh Matthews and Mark Williams are the last slightly tubby Premiership coaches I can think of).

Carlton - Bolton is an ant, but has no choice, cannot get fat as a small man and coach an AFL team.

Footscray - Bevo's chest is close to slipping, but still has some serious guns.

St Kilda - Alan is still trim.

Freo - Lyon looks very unhealthy - on a par with Dew, looks like he needs viagra.

Brisbane - Fagan doing ok for an old fella, I would want to play for this guy.

Essendon - Worsfold lost weight this year, looks like he could still bench a 100, maybe weight loss drugs?.

Sydney - Horse has been getting heavier, he's well past his 102 kg playing weight, could this herald a slide in the Sydney list.

GWS - Leon is getting soft around the middle, maybe not the example for GWS's colts?

North - Brad has been fighting turning into Dew, has slipped and recovered (I know what that is like, the slipping part)

Geelong - Chris needs a big preseason - his skinfolds would be worse than mine and he's 6 years younger.

BTW.... If you think I am procrastinating at work you are correct.

Not a single fact in what you wrote of Goodwin. No truth, just your own pathetic rumour mongering. Show us specific proof of Goodwin taking PEDs at Essendon.

You are a pure troll and you add nothing to this forum. Now there's a fact you won't be able to handle.

Goodwin is better prepared. He looks fit and he is obviously meticulous and diligent. Dew's size is perhaps a reflection of his lack of preparation. He looks sloppy. As a player I personally wouldn't respect a guy of that size. He is coaching a professional and elite football team. A bare minimum requirement at his age are that he should be at least in shape. Others may disagree with that.

 As I said.
