I don’t think it should’ve been a free kick but at the same time he didn’t dive, he just wasn’t braced for it and it was heavy enough to knock him to the ground.

Umpires justneed to get in there and say to all players straight away, next person who does something stupid will have a free kick paid against.

I kinda like that we have a bit of hatred towards us though, for so long people kept patting us on our back and saying “good for you” if we won a game. It was nauseating.

I like hearing opposition fans say, “wow they’re actually really hard at it and kinda dirty”, no more bruise free footy!

The maggots don't need to say anything - just blow the whistle and pay the free.  The players (should) know the rules.

Just like when there is a ruck contest the maggots prattle on "no holding, no holding" as if the ruck men don't know the rule.  Just pay the bloody free!

Whilst I am on the subject, they also need to pay some frees (and if it is for us or against us doesn't really matter as long as it evens up eventually) with all this punching, grabbing around the neck, and elbowing even before the game starts .... just pay a free ... no warnings. .... Nike_just do it.

His attitude, and his handball skills are very Greg Williams like.  I like it!

Maybe, but by comparison Williams was slow and unathletic, and his hand balling was never quite up to Clarrie's standard :-)

I get what you’re saying but for the bump on Oliver it just seems to harsh to pay a direct free kick, 9/10 he wouldn’t go down for it and it would be play on.

The player gets punished because the player getting bumped is off balance.

Dunno, if Clarry ends up with two Brownlows, a flag and a Normie I reckon it's a good comparison that he'd live with, slow and unathletic notwithstanding!

I think he's just annoyed that Viney has been called the 'Selwood of the next decade', it is disrespectful to Viney, so Oliver is taking some of the heat. Watch for him to start ducking this week! ?

Spoke to Clayton for 5 minutes at the Casey match on Saturday and was telling him my lad and I were driving back to Adelaide after the match after making the trip for both finals so far.

Clayton "So are you coming to Perth?"

Me "Probably not, I'm going to save my coin for the week after" <cheekily>

Clayton "Great idea! Don't stress - We got this! See you in a couple of weeks" <with some serious confidence>

I don't like Clarry..... I LOVE HIM! :D

Well don't stick your hands out and push a champion player like Clarry OR HE WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES TO FRUSTRATE AND GET ONE ON YOU.

He doesn't like to come second to anyone and anything because he is a winner and l hope it rubs of on all our team. Go Dees!

If the umps pay frees for pushing and shoving outside of play, then whether the player shoved falls over or not would be irrelevant, so it wouldn't matter if the pushed player was off balance or even faked falling over.  It's the uneccessary contact that is paid.

Anyone who has done a bit of boxing or indeed been confronted by some aggressive drunk should know that if your opponent has a parallel  stance instead of a spread/ braced stance they are at a disadvantage. Clayton doesn't dive he has been in the wrong stance when shoved thus ending up on his back. A free should be paid for putting a player on their back off the ball. If you are too dumb to recognise the player is  not braced then that is the perpetrators problem.

I dont give a [censored], but again, why is there media focus on something a Melbourne players does, when guys like Duckwood & Dangerflop do it several times a game?

Same as the Melbourne "can't beat top 8 side" crap while the filth go 14/14 vs bottom 10 sides and 1/7 vs the rest, with that 1 being us

lol. how one-eyed can supporters be? Of course he dived.

I dont think so. The contact was there. He just let it happen. He could have braced.

You dont know the difference ? Lol.

No mention of Burgoyne or Gunston for exaggerating  contact  on the below the knee frees?

What about Selwood grabbing his forehead when viney hit him in the chest?

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
