I have heard some suggesting flying via Hobart may be considerably cheaper. Something to consider.

isnt china southern one of our sponsors?

Who is there Oz domestic partner?

Could be a good news opportunity for them???

I know air asia leases out spare capacity.... maybe they could route one of their chinese destination flights from melbourne via perth with a long stopover... or just lease a few widebodies to an Oz operator

what you are speaking of is often debated but the Qantas lobby wins all the time.

Asian airlines have wanted to fly into Darwin and then pick up passengers before flying onto the Australlian capital cities and vice versa.

NT Government very much in favour of it as the airfares to Darwin are very high and this would have seen a drop by 50% or similar.

Same approach is adopted by the Americans so we're not unique.

G'day, long time reader first time poster as they say!

While the price is still pretty high (about $850 return), I have booked to fly to Adelaide, fly from Adelaide to Perth on Saturday morning. Then flying from Perth to Sydney Saturday night (red eye) connecting back to a Melbourne flight Sunday morning. Pretty steep still, but better than the $1,700 odd elsewhere.I will have one nights accom to pay in Adelaide (flying in Friday), but for barely a night happy to do backpacker accom to keep the cost down! An option for anyone really keen to explore to get the cost a bit lower, is consider mix and match fly in and fly out?

Do you know what supply-demand is?  If you did, you would be less outraged.

Do you know what profiteering is? There are laws against it, which obviously don't apply to airlines

The AFL or Club should step in and charter a plane. Unfortunately they will make more money with less flights.

That's only 350-400 ppl....and then it would sit on the tarmac for say 10hrs...won't happen

there are some great podcasts on the algorithms used to set airline prices... it's a dark science but it isn't profiteering because these one off high demand factors are definitely built into the annualised profit of each route.

Piece of trivia... Melbourne to Sydney is the second busiest air route in the world.

Reported in The Age that the club is looking at chartering buses to Perth.

Booked $1250 return via Adelaide leaving Friday am and getting home late Sunday night ! Can be done but will cost that or slightly more sadly Jetstar

Just to put this into context, I can get a Paris > Perth return, going out Thursday, come back Sunday, for 900 euros (around $1460).

(Etihad/Thai if anyone's curious).

Ridiculous prices and just blatant profiteering.

With the time delay, you could go watch us win in Perth and then fly back and watch us win again in Europe. Sweet.

I got $800 return with Virgin, however I am flying up Thursday night and getting back early 8am Tuesday morning. The flights have an overnight stay in Sydney on the way up & Adelaide on the way back.

& for those complaining about prices, if an airline puts on an extra flight then the plane will be flying back empty, therefore it should be expected to pay at least double. & that's not including costs to reschedule flights for people on the flights who get cancelled.

What does it cost to charter a plane?

I already checked. It works out to be around $1500 - $2000 per person for a 737 (189 capacity). That's assuming 4 hours flight time each way.

$7.50 Uber from home to the ground.

Hats off to those that make the journey. My folks booked flights a while ago to come over and visit, just worked out to be the day of the prelim. They get in around half time, hoping they can make an earlier flight so the old man and I can make the game together. By the sound of it though, they’ll have to pay a fair bit on top of that they’ve already paid.

If you’ve got flights sorted, maybe hold off giving everyone else a pep talk right now.

Such a great time to live there. Had to pay off sometime! ?

Just a bridge too far at this point, barring a miracle. We’ll be well represented though I have no doubt.

Currently I could fly to Perth for $2000 or I could fly to Paris for $1500. Taking the absolute [censored] these airlines.

Wow that’s ludicrous. Watch it on TV and save yourself for the GF.

I’m sure the airlines will increase the price of flights the following week. If we happen to win I’ll be the one forced to fork out big $.

Too true. Hopefully it’s not quite as bad as if the Weagles win.

I know it’s expensive but it always is. I have paid more to go to Perth before (well, work did) so I’m not that shocked. I luckily got some tickets using points on the way over, so “only” cost me $389 total

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
