It is always a huge task to hold onto players who do not get a game but have serious talent. If we go as far as I think we are about to, there will be a dozen clubs trying to pillageĀ our list. It is a serious issue for us.

i would nominate Jaydn Hunt and Tom Bugg as the most likely targets. Sadly because I think especially Hunt has serious talent given his speedĀ and ball smarts. Speed IMHO is not one of our strengths. I would hate to see him go.

The question is what can we get for them, and what do we really need?

Ā

No one is leaving Melbourne now...

I can’t even get myĀ head in this space.Ā

Sorry mate.Ā

Let's worry about that at the appropriate time. Now is definitely not it, we have more important things to concentrate on.

In fairness to the OP, it is a good question, but let’s put this one on ice for a few weeks..

The last timeĀ we were about to become a "A Power" was when Bailey was coach.
Seems some supporters have learnt nothing.
Ā

I think it is the next set of contract renewals where it may get difficult. Until then, just enjoy what the boys are doing each week.

But we're drunk on bath water and it tastes so good!!! Don't spoil the fun dammit!Ā

Seems like a pretty bizarre manifestation of MFCSS to me!

'We're doing well now, who are we going to lose?'.

Anyway, definitely not a topic for 5 hours before a semi-final.

Another quality mid to replace Nathan is somthing we need to lookĀ at. Also Lewis will be moving on soon. A crumbing small forward and a back up ruck. Not too much.

Do you know something? Are there whispers from inside about these two?

Bugg, Stretch, JKH...maybe Jeffy G.... Campbell Brown loves saying that these are good targets for oppo clubs

It used not to be. But at the moment we are moving the ball more quickly than any other team in the AFL.

I agree our ball movement is terrific and speedy. Intimidating at times to opponents, and fabulous to watch, but with a few honourable exceptions don’t think our players are particularly speedy across the ground, but our game plan more than makes up for it.

Not the time for negativity.Ā

What about now?

To be serious, if I was a fringe player I'd be considering my options. Would I want to stay at a club which seems as close as anyone to winning a flag over the next few years but with whom I might not get more than a game or two? Or would I want to goĀ to a team that's not as strong but at least I would get to play regularly? And that ignores the question of money,Ā who might be able to pay more and length of contract.Ā  If I were Hunt, Bugg, Kent, Wagner and another club offered me good money for a three year deal, I'd have to seriously consider the offer. It might be more enjoyable to play seniors regularly at a middle-ranked club than play in the seconds for a top four club.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.Ā

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
