The only good news is the GWS are almost finished. Shiel and Scully this year. Kelly next. They will not be the super power we thought

I'd be quite happy if that is the case.

GWS were given probably the most priority acess to quality young players in the history of the AFL and at the same time that the MFC bottomed out and needed to rebuild, partially impeding our ability to rebuild.  The draft concessions given to GWS have achieved what they were set out to do and that is enable them to build a compeditive team in a reasonable time frame, which they did.  Whilst I'm sure the AFL would have loved GWS to have won a flag, they haven't and so be it.

Quite happy for GWS to simply survive for a few years being an average to poor side.  The AFL will probably need to do a pretty good job persuading the rest of the competition that GWS being in the comp is a net benifit through additional TV rights or something  (though I struggle to see how), in the context of the team continuing to loose millions of dollars in it's own right every year.  I'm personally getting sick of this artificial team being propped up much longer.

You would think the additional national interest in the game from a Tassie team would actually give TV ratings a kick and the Tassie government should draw a hard line and say we are not supporting Hawthorn and North Melb beyond 2020 without the commitment to establish a Tasmanian team in its own right.

Only if we made him buy a house in Werribee and make him train and play for Casey for the next three years

Couldn’t think of a more appropriate club for him to join tbh

In other news, Hawthorn have been rumoured to drop their lucrative Tassie deal to sign sponsorship deals with Chiko Rolls (front of jumper), Big M (back of jumper) and Four n' Twenty pies (shorts).

This also comes alongside the rumor of Phat Phil getting the job as Chief Commercial Officer at the Hawks.

Oh Ok. So let me get this straight. You guys are all happy to let an All Australian caliber wingman (2017 40 man squad) go a fellow top 4 contender for a ham sandwich at the expense of filling one of our key needs which is outside run, carry, class and goal kicking.

I guess we’ll all settle for JFk spudding up the MCG southern stand wing next year as most of you can’t build a bridge and get over an incident that happened 7 years ago.

Spot on. Ridiculous commentary around this. People need to grow up a little bit.

He fills a need, just like Lever, just like May, just like KK.

Sounds like he's just about over the line at Hawthorn, but I'm glad our FD clearly realise we need to move on and get to winning flags, instead of being too proud to address such a blatantly obvious need.

Heard him interviewed on the radio yesterday; pretty clear that he holds little or no affection for the Dees.  Talked about how difficult the booing and money bags stunts when he played us was. Feelings mutual. Interestingly he does keep in contact with Max (a little bit)

Just saw this, glad our supporters got to him.

Keep up the good work.

Emotion aside, if he came cheap and didn't want a huge contract, I'd take him. We could use that run on the outside. I doubt if he would ever be popular with the fans, but you live with the decisions you make.

$cully is a fourth round pick (form no.1 pick on $6m contract at GWS)

May requires pick 5 ????

We even got 31 for watts

Seriously .... WTF

GWS must have royally messed up his ankle surgery for him to go at that price (either that or Hawks think his ankle is stuffed regardless and are hoping for a miracle).

Good riddance.

Must be huge doubts on his ability to return to full fitness.

Gotta feel for the bloke.

Possibly... I don’t think the dorks are that stupid

either his ankle is royally [censored] OR

GWS are desperate to release salary cap

This deal makes a mockery of the whole trade system. Should be worth a first rounder. Has an ankle injury but he’ll be fine in 5 months.

Why the [censored] would gws not ask for more? And don’t say salary cap as they are holding firm on Shiel.

[censored] joke

Not sure how a player that good can go for so little, even with an injury issue.

I don't get it.

He comes across as such a great bloke that you would do anything to keep him, right Giants?

(Ha!  Big salary for the next few years and questionable character offloaded to the dorks.  GWS laughing in their Halal snack packs)

So Kent and Scully Are worth around the same??!

Got it.

HAS to be more to this or it is connected to another deal. The hawks will be tough to beat again, those A Holes

An outrageous steal!!! His ankle must be all kinds of buggered, otherwise this is ridiculous!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
