I heard a whisper that we are intending to play two rucks next year.  Hence our interest in Pruest.

Max has an amazing ability to read the ball & clunk contested Marks @ both ends of the ground.

Imagine having Maxy play as the lose defender whilst still having a dominant ruck men in the middle.

I actually quite like this idea.

The basic fact is we don't have a second true Ruckman on our list capable of playing AFL, Casey showed that yesterday.  We can't relay on Max to be fit for the entire 2019 season and need someone that can give him a rest.

I'm strongly in favour of recruiting Preuss as depth ruck but I'm strongly against playing two rucks when we have Weed and TMac already doing  good job.

Not sure why Preuss would come under those circumstances but I'd welcome him.

Its fairly certain Filapovic and King will get delisted.

So its no shock that we're now chasing a mature ruckman to help out Gawn. And its not like its unknown ruckman, its someone whos dominated at VFL level and shows the same similar traits to Shane Mumford.

I would not also be surprise that after picking up Pruess, we then recruit a mature age ruckman from state league just to have as an insurance and one that will handy in the VFL also.

You have Bradtke coming onto the list 205cm I reckon will get to the 208-210cm as our developing ruckman

We should have done this two years ago.

We can't expect Gawn to ruck every game like he did this season.

We had the golden opportunity to take Oscar McInerney with our 1st pick in the rookie draft, only to then overlook for for none other then Lachie Filipovic ?‍♂️

Had a great debut year this year with 16 games and kicked 14 goals as a ruckman/forward giving Stef Martin a chop out.

Can he play forward? When not i  the ruck

He can play forward, and kicks both feet rather elusively.

I think Goody has to reevaluate his footballing philosophy regarding ruckmen.

Throughout his tenure, he has favoured 1 Specialist ruckman, i think we need to take alot of stock in what happened to Gawny in the Prelim.

He got worked over by two decent ruckmen, the Lycett and Vardy combo destroyed our biggest asset.

The time has come for the coaching to reassess the value we place in our Ruckman.

Seems other clubs are now interested in Preuss, Richmond being one of them. Hopefully we already have this locked up.

agreed.

gawny's body is not going to hold up without better support.

he will run himself into the ground.

While in theory I like your line of thinking, with the abolishment of the D-League, you can't have too many specialist rucks on your list, as you'll run out of places to play them. I think Gawn in the seniors, Preuss at Casey with Bradtke playing off the bench/resting forward and helping out in the ruck is about it as far as our specialist rucks will go.

Otherwise expect additional ruck support to come from Weideman, Tom McDonald & Keilty.

It makes sense. Even if we play 2 rucks in half the games, or give Gawn 2-3 games off each H&A season, it has to be a better option than flogging a half dead horse to the finish line.

Gawn was spent on Saturday. He has rucked solidly for 26 weeks. It is far far too big an ask. Not to mention that he has only managed 2 injury-free seasons in his entire career. What a risk if he goes down.

Anyone see Maxy coming out of the goal square clunking and kicking truly - I can . Play him forward 40/60 get someone to share the load extend his career.

Get Preuss and in the meantime scour the USA for the next 7 foot project foward / ruck .

tmac and hogan are utilities - can do it all. Big bodies who can drag big defenders down field.

Would be another weapon -Maxy!!!!

Lets face it when Maxy heads off to rest for his 5-7 minute spells we dont go as well .

A genuine ruck at full intensity all game is what our midfield deserves.

If the price is right I would absolutely take him. He’s no Gawn, but miles better than king and flipper.

Ditch king and flipper, play Hogan in defence, alternate preuss and Gawn in the ruck resting forward.

use additional spot on list for further midfield depth/outside run

This makes perfect sense to me as well!

It makes absolutely no sense to me this, unless one of our big guys are on the move. We need a backup sure, but this guy could be first ruck at probably 8-9 clubs. Something is cooking in the kitchen I feel.

Unless he is very special Bradtke is a minimum of 5 years away. Bigs take time, let alone not played for how long yadda yadda yadda.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
