There is great joy in watching two arrogant clubs which tried to bulk-buy their way into finals each taking turns at being thoroughly crapulent.

If only Adelaide was playing in this game too. Then I could watch every non-Melbourne supporting member of my extended family feel bad in one glorious night.

No noise of acclamation at the Adelaide Oval tonight. The Bombers lead frees 12 to 6.

That’s because Essendon are everyone’s second favourite team. Even the umpires.

They continue to talk up Essendon but they are 8-12 at best.

Could never understand the hype but not to worry they will get the prime time games again next year

But wait a minute, wasn’t everyone at the start of the year talking about how well Port had recruited?

Ollie Wines is slowly becoming an overrated player for me.

Give me Angus Brayshaw every day of the week.

I guess we’ll have prove him wrong and make his intelligence match his looks

I REALLY want the cats in the first week, I feel like beating them in the finals would exorcise some demons for us

Sooo let me get this straight... Dons can’t play finals and Port have a chance to go into the 8 and how Cats lose...

Port look terrible and Ess are over celebrating!

This would be the best game i've seen Essendon play this year.

Agreed 100%.

If he was a Melbourne player we would be pulling our hair out at his poor foot skills and lack of speed.   Covers the ground like a turtle.

CATegorically.

Me too.

Finally, Viney would get to play them in 2018.

Boy, wouldn't it be funny if Essendon win and it turns out we would've made finals regardless of losing our last two games? ?

Poor old Watts. Would be lucky to get a game at Casey the way he is playing. Looks to be totally uninterested in going anywhere near the ball unless it lands in his lap. Doubt he’ll get another contract.

I’m just so glad that for once the destiny was in our hands and we were good enough to make sure of it without having to rely on other results.

Yeah but we are getting much needed relaxation!

Ridiculous.  It’s Wines v Toumpas as the comparison.

Brayshaw is a champion. And so is Ollie Wines.

God, I hope he gets another contract.

Imagine all the nuffies on here calling for us to recruit him as a delisted free agent if he doesn’t!

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
