...and like you I had no children.

This is wild. i'll be a happy man all week.

Not sure my 11yo daughter understands the euphoria... as I was reflecting, I figured out that she was at about a 3mth embryonic stage the last time we played finals!

Should we lose to GWS by a narrow margin how much do Geelong have to win by to leapfrog our percentage? Personally i would love a game at the MCG and avoid GWS at Spotless Stadium.

If we win, we're likely to play the cats at the G. That's the best possible outcome given that we've had them covered this year, and we will most certainly be out to seek revenge where it counts.

Nothing wrong with that.

I'm wearing my scarf to work tomorrow :)

Dean Kent nails it through the big sticks - THE DEMONS ARE HOME!!!

Jump to my feet and huge fist pump of the air -  GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS!!!

Finals 2018 here we come!!  Ohhh yeah.

I thought it was so fitting that some of the guys that steered us home - Jones, Harmes  (life long MFC supporter) and Kent who has also been there since the dark days of 2013 and a somewhat maligned player at times - maligned no more!

Totally agree. Love to get the Cats at the 'G. Just looking at the worst case scenario to avoid Giants in Sydney. Need a mathematician do give me an idea of a manageable Geelong victory.

Predicted top temperature of 22 degrees C in Brisvagus tomorrow, but just try stopping me from wearing my 2013 membership scarf!

12 long years! I was 21 at the MCG that night against the Saints. So much has happened since then. But who cares, we’re there!

Not to put a damper on this thread, but if Port does Essendon by around 200 points and we lose to GWS by a similar margin then we wont play finals. Hopefully we will all be able to relax a bit after Friday night.

Hahaha yeah because 200 point wins and losses are so common. Not even Freo could manage to lose by this much.

I think we can send the finals booklets out now.

I know. I was thinking tonight that since we played in that final I’ve travelled to 20 plus countries, graduated from university, had 5 jobs, bought a house, moved in with my partner and... watched us lose 12,579 times.

I was seriously starting to believe I’d never see another final. Too much [censored] goes wrong too often. So thank [censored] that’s ticked off now.

I think today was a big monkey off the back for the players, so I don’t think it matters where or who we play. I’m just going to try to enjoy it.

[censored] yes you Demons.

Wish my rap sheet was a bit more like that. 6 countries, 8 jobs, 6 places of residence, a business degree, a hip arthroscope, a bitter split, a.... oh let’s not go further! ?

I was denied the opportunity to watch football from 2004 to 2007. It's been 16 years since I've seen us play in a final.*

*crammed around a small TV at the Central Hotel in Port Douglas back in the days before its redevelopment and you could be in there bare-foot without a shirt and smoking to your heart's (dis)content.

Due to circumstances beyond my control and some bad timing, despite being an active supporter since the late 90s and a member most of that time, I've never been to a Demon final.

I don't want to be too selfish, so here's the deal - we knock over Geelong at the 'G in the first week then come up and crush Sydney in the semi-final, so I can watch up close and ideally surrounded by the smug nufties who were at the pub the other week! :D

Wait.. that's not actually what I was going to post about. Hmm, oh yeah, just noting that it took 5 years of clawing, scrabbling, grinding, incremental improvement each year to get to this point.

I for one hope that culture of clawing for every tough-earned and seemingly insignifcant gain is now validated and ingrained at the club for a generation.

Divorce got you too hey? Don't worry mate you're definitely not the only one!

Kudos to all those people who backed us to make finals after last week, brother @ding included.

Didn't see even one minute of the game live. Had (mostly) conceded prior to the bounce, and headed out with the lovely wife to meet 4 perfect strangers for dinner for the first time.

Nephew from Perth sent me 50 Viber messages with scores/plays/hopes/wishes.  Pain in the ass (legend actually), but I lived the game through him.

Enjoy this fellow Dees fans, as you have never seen a Melbourne team with the potential of this one. Don't underestimate what this could mean in the way of Free Agents also.

Made it! The culmination of yet another season of hard won incremental improvement. Success by inches. I am SO going to enjoy this September with the DEES in the FINALS!

Club are probably safe now in sending out details on how to get finals seats.

More than 2 minutes left and only 11 points up...maybe I'm scarred from too many painful losses but even at this stage I was still thinking the Eagles could easily kick two and win by a point.

But when Petracca hit up Melksham 15 metres out, with 1:30 to go, then it was party time!

I just hope we can go all the way one year soon. It is ageing me rapidly.

Since i started following the Dees in 1964, I've gone from being a boy,  to an old man!

Poor bastard.

I grew to despise the sight of yellow and brown balloons come September. Will be strange to see the Grand old Flag in the stands in week 1 of the finals.

Will be very interested in watching for any changes to the team mindset next week. Will we sit back and say our job is done, or does the prospect of an imminent final push our list to greater heights?

Next 2 weeks will be compelling viewing. Something very strange for this time of year.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
