I find that the pre-match Demonland threads lack a certain intellectual rigour and brings me no closer to deciding whether we will beat our opposition or not . . .

So, introducing Omen Watch:

I was visiting the hospital tonight, in ward C5 (Petracca?) and noticed a digital sign which read 'U4 EG afl. los'

I'm thinking it's bad.

But a duck also died next to my house the other day.

Maybe that's good?

Was the duck killed by an eagle? If so, could be a bad sign.

By a boat.

Not cryptic enough. Bring back the riddler from the draft forum a few years back!

Yesterday I saw a woman wearing blue and yellow socks walking across the road, she tripped over the gutter and landed on her stomach. Pretty sure she was awarded a free kick. Good sign or bad sign?

Was it you who gave her a kick? Could be a good sign.

My girlfriend got the dead duck out of the water - but not with a Gaff.

I visited a farmer last night.

He had 22 dead Wedge tailed Eagles shot and strung up along a barbed wire fence.

Inside the house a huge fire was lit.

Out of the fire appeared 22 Tasmanian Devils who scooted out to the fence and devoured the Eagles before running into a massive laurel Bush  and murdering a nest of Magpies.

Seems fairly positive.

Business as usual, I’d say

Good God what happened??

Mr. Whispering are you ok??

Seriously.....

Looks like someone is trying a different brand of bathwater.

Is it an omen that in Sydney this week I've had multiple sightings of other Demon supporters in team gear? There's clearly some pride and determination still to be found. Possibly stung by the irritation of being around Swans supporters.

I saw a father and son today, the son was wearing a demon t-shirt and and a red and blue jacket, the father had a demon key ring.

So for me if i see fellow dee's before the game it's good luck, how ever if i see the other team colours it's always bad.

So all good for this week?

No no....I want some ;)

When my wife was with child a few years back I was at St Vincents Hospital and noticed one of their Obstetricians was named Dr Pregs Pillay.

Then I had a baby. (Not actually me, you understand.)

I think we've got this one.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
