Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

With the much improved ground maintenance, why couldn't you have more VFL curtain raisers, like the 'old'days.

Who cares about individually manicured blades of grass for the TV.

The TV product has died of a lack of character.

Lets have some mud being flung again. lets have some players getting up off their knees wiping mud from an eye.

The girly's can play first,,, on manicured pre-mud lawns,  OH, hang on !

Cap the free kicks to 3 per quarter per team. Have a team member umpire for your team. He chooses when he wants to pay them and for what indiscretions. This would also require a send-off rule I feel.

The problem with the game is clearly the ball. Everyone wants to get it. That causes congestion. When it goes over the fence, we waste time getting it back, slowing the game down considerably. When it gets grubby, the umpire has to wipe it on the ground to clean it.

The players chase it all over the place causing unsightly groups of players running around, detracting from the spectacle of the game.

If there were no ball in the game, there'd be a much faster, free flowing game, very little congestion, far fewer free kicks to adjudicate and it would bring spectators, disheartened by the direction the game is going, back to the game.

As an added bonus, it would stop Collingwood cheer squad members stealing the ball.

Instead of using a ball, to score, players could just run up and down the ground touching the goal post to score a goal. Whichever team can do that the most in a certain period of time, wins the game.

Why didn't someone come up with this idea sooner? I see no flaws in it.

And the AFL could spend mega bucks rebranding the game as “Foot” (or even footy, as neither reference the ball)

Very true, going to the footy itself is not half as good as it was before all the 'hoodoo' that exists today. A pie, maybe a hot dog, a thermos, a few beers, the anticipating 'hum' of the expectant crowds - no matter which teams were playing - the civil nature of the community of spectators, emphasising tolerance, a piddle at half-time with polite strangers, a quick smoke or two, no razzle, dazzle or imposed focus on irrelevant 'crowd entertainment', and better umpiring. The only real benefit of 'being there' is receiving a live view of your team in order to assess, speculate, understand, interpret and respect their efforts. Hey, you could even get a return train fare, ground entrance and a seat, the mandatory football nutrition and liquid refreshments, a Footy Record and a bag of hot jam doughnuts after the game for the walk to Richmond Station amongst friends - all for less than $25! Take us back, Gil because secretly, we are still all living the dream.

Was Richmond Station even invented before a single jam donut cost $25 at the footy?

Err, not sure about left field comments but it was a knockout at the footy, once.

There's nothing wrong with the game and it will fix itself. Stop [censored] around with the rules every year. It's ridiculous how often the rules of the game change.

That would make a lot of sense if there had not been some stupid rules made in recent times.  I'd prefer reversing them (or making them more sensible where possible) to putting my faith in the game taking care of itself.

Well, yes, I'd get rid of the stupid ruck nomination rule and the taking the legs rule. But other than those, leave it alone.

a good start, and not much more needs doing..  But something needs to be done about the protected zone rule (or its interpretation) and ensuring the 30 second kick at goal rule is not manipulated.  And I still can't see the justification of a kick from straight in front if a mark is taken anywhere in the goal square, though I doubt it makes much difference.

I would pay $1000 to watch a full game of AFL footy where there were two balls in play at all times.

Carlton plays Gold Coast this week. Go to that game and chuck a ball onto the ground midplay. I doubt anyone would intervene or even care.

Just make it no rules and play the AFLW and AFL together but in the nude. Also allow weapons.

Ha Ha! I've just had hernia surgery - when I read this I laughed so much I nearly re-ruptured it. Oh the pain...

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
