Miles better than the compensatory pick of around 15 that we would get if he leaves under restricted free agency.

Don't think he will be a free agent at the end of next year? And even then he'd be a restricted free agent so we'd have some say in matching then forcing a trade. Can all Hogan talk be contained in the thread on him, as the talk around him is all hypothetical rather than anything realistic as the club have said he'll stay and his manager made it even more clear.

yeah ... you have to match the dollars.. what makes you think we can match the dollars that a desperate club will throw at him. Freo has way more free salary cap than we have as do many other clubs.

We will be in the same position as WCE are with Gaff. Sure they could have matched the Dee's salary offer but no way can they match the North salary offer. That's why WCE are murmuring trade in the sense they want to scare off all the other clubs bar North and make it that much harder (successful v unsuccessful club etc) for Gaff to leave.

RFA shifts the balance dramatically in favour of the player.

Of course the manager says he'll stay.... his pay day is next year not this year. Our bargaining year is now. Why not sign him up now if he is so certain to stay ?

If the changes to the game go through, outside run will be very important,

We definitely need outside run.

Good one on one players will be worth their weight in gold.

The game may resemble AFL X,  if comments by some players are anything to go by.

I'm sure they'll be working on it over the summer, I'm sure there's something else they'll be focusing on this September!

Not just, simply outside run, 'shty'.

Break-line pace and delivery.

And highballs will go into F50 as well.

Okay.... who are you willing to give up to get said picks. If Carlscum score a PP this year should we try and cash in on the PP we were wrongfully denied lol?

Shiel, Kelly or Whitfield are the ones I want, Shiel is more likely. Mouthwatering midfield.

Whilst we're talking unrealistic trades, I think Macrae would suit our needs perfectly.

Giving the title of this thread is who do we REALISTICALLY target. With our need for an outside runner with good ball use, how about Sam Mayes from Brisbane?

Was mentioned on The Wash Up as being out of favor. Was a highly rated junior  (Viney's year), so maybe a change of locations would help plus playing in a better team?

Given we don't have much to trade with this year, maybe we could get him for a future 3rd rounder?

Yes 'Mad' was thinking of him the other day but he is an SA boy for what that might matter.

For some reason he has gone cold and struggling for a regular game.

I would also be looking at some of the younger Tiger small forwards (not Lloyd) who are not getting a regular game.

Surely has the skills to play regular games. Which usually means it's a question of work rate. Liked him as a forward when he first started but he looked good down back as well but couldn't consistently perform. He's certainly worth asking the question. Right age where he could get it together quickly if you sorted him out.

not that I think he was ever required, however you can rule a line through dalhaus, he won't be at melbourne...

Whispers are being whispered about unhappy players at St Kilda. Will Jacks Steele, Billings and Steven request a trade if Richo stays on? Stay tuned. #WhispermethisETthetradewhisperer.

I think you should mention that we are looking at Preuss.

From what I heard a while back, Preuss is definitely keen on joining the Dees. If we’re still keen come the trade period and can satisfy North in a trade, then Preuss will be a Dee next season.

A back up ruck, should one be needed (touch wood). Not sure Pederson will be with us next year and Tmac should stay as a forward target.

Pruese from the Kangas would be good in this regard, as well as turning him into a kp either fwd or bkwd. Probably got the spelling of his name incorrect, but hey, not everyone is a Smith or Jones.

I thought we would targeting free agents this year, but no one really suits our needs except gaff. (But hes not worth 1.2mill a year) wallis and dalhouse would add great list depth but not what we need.

Would love preuss and a oustide winger or half back but dont know who!

Any ideas who? Or fingers crossed hunt becomes that man.

Are we a chance to get Lever?

When he comes back from his season ending knee injury, he will almost certainly be in the red and blue next season.

You are the man.

I just want to say, it's nice to not have to peruse the main forum and its discontents, looking for trade rumours and discussion. Peaceful and quiet in here!

    TRAINING: Friday 28th February 2025

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
