My 3 word player analysis V StKilda

It’s easy in such a loss to forget how immense Maxxy was - one of the most complete games I’ve seen from a ruckman in my nearly 60 years of watching footy.

I also love watching Fritsch - the silkiest player we have had since dear old Tulip.

I agree in part as I was thinking during the match how Max’s amazing performance was reminding so much of that other number 11 circa 1991. Jimmy was amazing in that year. It was a different game back then where he could get to many more contests than any modern day player could, but gee he was a one man force to be reckoned with in those years. And Jimmy is still the perfect prototype ruckman in today’s footy, tall enough, huge endurance, incredible resilience, great mark, reasonable kick.

Good idea maybe you should have your own thread for this?

Gawn deserves a 10. Everybody else is rated too high.

Fritsch and Viney 6

The rest 4 and below.

And scary to think not only what would have happened against the Saints without Max but what would happen for the rest of the season if he went down.

On Sunday, it was as close to a one man team as you could get.

Yep, and he's only played 58 games;,,, so he and ANB are excellent endurance players, who will learn as the play.  Still immature Re games played.

Yes, he did, and he finally broke double figures for marks taken in a game; with 11 marks. finally.

He had a great game,  Maxy.

How assured is Fritsch with the ball in hand.

This reminds me a bit of the lyrics of this fantastic song (arguably the greatest Australian rock n roll song - ever)

'you're my only friend - and you don't even like me'

I find it interesting that we were actually a better side (defensively, at least) this time last year without Gawn or Hogan.

Our mids has to work harder to win the centre clearances, but we did.

Baffles me that we’ve gone backwards this year with key personnel back in the side.

He is a gun. He is such a good kick. Compare his kicking 2 Hannan & Neal-Bullen

Easily BOG for us Chook and his best game for the season.

Fritschkrieg is certainly all class.  I just hope the others start catching a little of his kicking skills and accuracy.  Beautiful to watch.

Jones - age catching up

Viney - great when unburdened

Fritsch - was all class

Hogan - ten minute game

Harmes - played with heart

Brayshaw - prolific but wasteful

Lewis - often a liability

Melksham - playing slow motion

T.McDonald - was probably injured

Neal-Bullen - an irrelevant player

Petracca - plenty of nothing

Tyson - a dumb player

Weideman - nothing to commend

Gawn - one man team

Hannan - devoid of ability

Hibberd - reduced to amateurish

Oliver - rarely found space

Petty - debut to forget

Salem - undisciplined and disappointing

Smith - little to praise

Jetta - was still concussed

O.McDonald - was emphatically embarrassing

Too generous.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
