... so doe's Bbo's maid,,, apparently.  I'll bet he being honed down right now, by that cantankerous grinder.

Some old mate on Mac sports radio this morning said a player, he wouldn't name for privacy reasons, had sent a medical "certificate" of some sort to non-Vic clubs which said he couldn't move interstate.

How is that Syd/wce action not draft tampering?  Park a second rounder at wce, so bundle lower picks, then trade it straight back after the lower picks have been used.  How is this fair or in the spirit of the draft?  I know it cost them a later round downgrade next year, but this means they get Blakey and a second rounder for peanuts.

That no club bid on Blakely earlier to force them to use pick 24 allowed them to cash in.  We would have forced their hand earlier as we did with Mills and Heeney.

It just shows the distortions the points based trading system creates.  Last night 3 Academy picks were matched:

  • Tarryn Thomas to North who started with 42, 47, 48, 49, 55, 58, 86
  • Nick Blakey to Sydney who started with  26, 33, 38, 39, 40, 70, 88 then traded out 26 before the opp bid and traded back in 24 after matching
  • Isaac Quaynor to Collingwood who started with 41, 44, 57, 59, 60, 93

North and Collingwood have Academy players tipped to go in the top 10 picks tonight (as do GWS and WBD).  Colllingwood also have the highly touted F/S, Will Kelly.

It is shocking that all these top players can go for 'junk' picks.

Yesterday, I posted that trading of picks by clubs with 'Tied' players (either Academy or F/S) needs revamping, starting with the elimination of discounts for Academy players.

I really dislike Sydney's clever trading last night but I have greater disdain for the underlying system that allows clubs to trade out high picks for junk picks during the trade period or during live-trade.  And it will worsen in coming years as more Academy (and F/S) players come into the system.  The draft points system is no longer working effectively and needs to change.

We may have a few F/S prospects coming through over the next 3 to 5 years. So change it after that!!!

Weren’t things scheduled to restart again 1.5 hours ago? ?

Put your hand up if you tipped us to get Tom Sparrow. I don't remember seeing anyone tip that.

See our next pick James Jordan had a big first quarter in final but faded from there. Will fit right in with us.

LoL keep up the good work ODee

Every player's description on the AFL draft tracker sounds like they ought to go pick 1.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
