Those umpires knew 15 to 20 minutes before the end of that game what was going to be required to fit the necessary result.

They then went about doing it. It would have taken about that amount of time to make it look legitimate. 

What should be disturbing is that the correlation between a constructive, continual, concerted written abuse of disgraceful and bias performances seems to coincide with the way the maggots and media alike conduct their childish vendettas against this team, of which i am becoming increasingly proud...

sorry mate i disagree here. port are a good team. we played well tonight. sure it wasnt easy to score but what do people expect. its a top 4 team at their home ground. the noise of affirmation is real!  id say a legitimate 4 goal difference.

We could have done a lot better with a fit Vandenberg and Bugg in that team to fall over Pepper who kept on falling on top of everyone else. Umpires my a#$%s...

I have seen too much of this to say it’s a passing trend.  Some interstate crowds are influencing umpiring decisions, and it’s heating up amongst supporter groups.  

I am all for providing the right context for umpires and they are generally ok.  However,  umpires need to address this issue of crowd noise and how it affects their decisions.  

I am not saying it has cost a game yet, but it will and when it happens there will be outrage.

AFL must fix this, it is a weekly talking point.

Is this really that much more of an issue than it has ever been?

I would be surprised if its a talking point this week. Don't get me wrong I think it should be. But interstate crowds with a full house of loud passionate one eyed supporters have and will continue to have an effect on the game and umpire decisions.

I really feel for the poor bastards sometimes. It really is a hostile environment. Maybe we could give them blinkers and earmuffs

Everytime you play in SA or WA you concede 3 to 4 goals before the first bounce. Similar to the old days playing the Pies at Victoria Park I think. Not sure how you change that bias. Just even up the FIXture somehow.

Or Windy Hill,  Geelong,  Princes Park,  Western Oval.  Moorabbin etc etc. 

Home town decisions happen in every sport in any country.  Nothing is ever going to change Earl.  It's what it's.

Footy teams should always plan on being a 5 goal better team than any opposition team - that cushion covers an interstate trip and allows for a percentage boost on home soil.

By the way,  every supporter group of every team complains about home town decisions - we're all the same when you break it all down.

1. Acknowledge that the phenomenon of parochial crowds is real. There is plenty of good, academic evidence to support this.

2. Train the umpires to resist crowd-based decision making through extensive and rigorous simulation programs. Those who fail get relegated to minor leagues.

Demonised..... 1 will never ever happen, as it would reflect very poorly on what HQ love to refer to as the integrity of the game, and they could never admit that there was any problem with that even though it is glaringly obvious

I dont mind that interstate clubs have the Noise of Affirmation as it creates a bit of controversy.  It was a cracking game, we fell short largely due to composure with our kicking into 50, have something to work on next week and will play in September if we are good enough. Lets create our own Noise of Affirmation next weekend at the G.

That’s the whole point. There will be no significant “ noise of affirmation”.

There will be as many St K supporters as Melb supporters.

Crowd influence on umpires will be evened out.

This is one of the reasons we are at a huge disadvantage to the Interstate clubs and Geelong.

We are at a similar disadvantage ( to playing interstate) on OUR OWN HOME GROUND against Collingwood, Richmond,Hawthorn, even Carlton...... but we have a chance of overcoming that in the long term future,   IF we can become a strong club with  greatly increased membership, and numbers of supporters at home games.( and NOT selling home games)

To achieve this,the talented on-field  group we have at present have to put together successive highly successful seasons to attract people to our club.

It should be a talking point. WCE were completely outplayed by the bombers yet still won the freekick count 33-17! How the [censored] is that possible???

Wingard gets a non-mark results in a goal. Melksham gets a rubbish free against him, results in a goal taken off us, 50 the other way which ended up in a goal. That's 3 goals right there in a 10 point game. Many more examples as well but just those 2 instances umpired correctly and we win.

WCE/Essendon game was just as bad (if not worse) than ours.

The AFL deliberately put 3 local umpires on to test the noise of affirmation, and the 16 differential affirms that there is a bias no matter if the umpires are a mix of local/interstate, purely interstate or purely local. Also, there were a lot missed frees for Essendon than reflrctive in that differential. 

The AFL need to pull the finger out and umpires need better training. Their inconsistency is having too much on an influence on the game.

go on strike? Sue the league?

and that's the problem and why I want the data so I can try and pull it apart and find the main offenders - quantitative data indisputable

All clubs should seriously put the heat on the afl, especially publically in pressers, it’s not the necessarily the umps fault, Gil has changed the rules so many times and interpretations that everyone is confused, supporters, commentators, players. I’m still going to say that it’s rigged to even up games to make the afl look better, don’t care what anyone says. I started a thread last year and was privately messaged by an ex police commissioner and investigator stating he fully supported my views, funny that. The whole game is corrupt. Draw, umpiring, fixturing, MRP. Different rules for different people/organisations

The reason why this game was more pronounced was because our predisposition was different. We never gave up right to the end.

Therefore the glaringly bloody obvious was there..........we was robbed.

This is an example of my points about umpires: the game is now fully corrupted and incompetence is just fine when managed (AFL) in a non-descript manner for the unspoken net outcomes. Time we let the AFL and the umpires board feel the way we do about this creeping cancer on our game. I will partake in this season a little longer but not next year if there is the slightest hint of favoured outcomes against any team in the competition.
