Look at those Oliver numbers, and hes 3 years younger than Cripps and played 26 less games.

Incredible.

When we got Oliver I was excited because he was in a similar mould to Cripps.

Both already are stars, Oliver has more polish but Cripps is more of a physical beast.

Agreed.

I also think, to this point, that Clarry has been far more durable than Cripps who has suffered a few moderate injuries over the last few years.  Touch wood with Oliver, but he has been remarkably consistent with his presence and contribution to the side, more so than Cripps has for Carlton.

I do too and hit the like button to reflect that. But like is different to agree.

We need some more buttons. An agree one. A disagree one. And a what you taking about Willis, i'm confused one.

This was on the myheartbeatstrue Instagram account yesterday. Naturally,I sent it to my Carlton mate who keeps saying Cripps is the marginally better player, but thinks both are guns.

His first response to that picture was I'd love to know who leads contested marking and goals. Sure enough, that's pretty even too. Clarry has kicked more goals and Cripps taken more contested marks. He defaulted to "they're both guns" haha.

I also suspect because Cripps is a bit of a lone hand at Carlton and they're so ordinary, they kick it to him more than our guys need to on Oliver's head. Because Clarry is an equally impressive contested mark. I still remember that mark on the wing in his first game against Callan Ward. Brilliant.

Anyway, I hope they play on each other.

Hard to split them based on those numbers.  I'd take Oliver first because of his age, but I reckon you'd find every Carlton supporter would take Cripps.  Every other supporter would be happy with either you'd think.

Really looking forward to seeing these two go head to head.

Game time this season is interesting, as is metres gained. I think they are both great players but given the choice I would take Oliver every time. He is the best young player I have seen.  ---Table from footywire.

Cripps                                                                                                                                                                 Oliver

3.4 Centre Clearances Per Game 2.9
4.8 Stoppage Clearances Per Game 4.6
5.1 Score Involvements Per Game 7.4
247.0 Metres Gained Per Game 343.8
4.6 Turnovers Per Game 3.8

Both sensational players with bright futures ahead.

I could rave on about Clarry but I'd be letting my bias side take over.

My heart backs Clarry, however, I believe Cripps will have himself a good game as he has a point to prove after Lewis cracked his jaw last time they met (he certainly eluded to it in a recent interview with Garry Lyon).

Main reasons that Oliver is better:

  • he has a burst from the pack (that will get better and he will use more)
  • He is a longer, better kick
  • he is a better handballer
  • he plays for Melbourne

Obviously Clarrie but I wouldn't mind Cripps as well. I regard both as elite players.

I'm just so happy we're now able to have these discussions about how good our players are. The tide has turned and I'm not reading about failed development or wrong picks – they're still out there and clubs are still making mistakes but Melbourne is getting more right than wrong and have been for 3-4 years now. Thanks Roosy / PJ /Taylor /Viney.

I told everyone as soon as we called out Clayton's name, that he will be a star and reach higher levels than Petracca. Most people disagreed. YOU'RE MY BOY CLAYTON!

Seems Carlton and their supporters are looking forward to this one because of Lewis and Hogan's strikes last year.  Reckon it will be hot early.

You'd be happy with either.

Oliver is faster and a better kick, while as Clint says Cripps is more powerful.

My bias says Oliver.

It is interesting with Cripps that no one links him with a return home to WA.  Either or both are outstanding players wish they would both kick the ball more
