That is a good win but we cannot expect to get 83 inside 50's every week and we were not that efficient with 41 scores. I still think we are too easy to score against and while we have the 2nd most points scored we are the in the bottom 7 for points scored against. Defence wins flags.

We have played and beaten 4 of the current bottom five teams so there is so room for improvement if and when we get past Carlton. Then the tough stuff starts. Some random thoughts

The team looks much better with Tommy Mac in and allows Hoges to roam far and wide. Oliver had a staggering 11 tackles which is uperb given he is such an attacking player. Fritch gets the ball and tackles. Gold Coast had Lynch out but he was their only major out but it is a concern that their NEAFL team did not score a goal against the Brisbane NEAFL team. I thought that was Harmes breakout game and his work rate was sensational. I really like Salem off the half back flank. Next week despite being at the G will be our 4th away game in a row, who does the draw?

It is ok to still have lots of room for improvement after an 11 goal win but the real test is yet to come

hey guys i went to the game so here is my take:

We were challenged in the 3rd quarter but responded. People saying we should have won by 100 are a bit misled. If the suns had of been 1 goal or 2 goals closer at three quarter time it would've changed the whole context of the game.

Best game ive seen lewis play.

omac is improving each week. just needs to keep taking the easy option.

the ability for other teams to find space is still a massive concern. guys like martin and hall broke the lines a few times and we looked a bit vulnerable out the back. At the end of the day we need to lock it down against teams like richmond and hawthorn. 

gawn was great after the game getting photos with fans.

salem is really getting momentum.

fritsch and hannan are dangerous forwards and i like spargo in the team as he is accurate.

petracca: i was criticised a lot on this board for being critical of his kicking  but he has been hopeless in front of the big sticks. 

jetta/hibberd/lever are all hitting form.

tom mcdonald: so good up forward. shows you why a premium should be placed on goal kicking accuracy. its no wonder hawks stay competitive with bruest, gunston and rioli being the best kicks in the league.  

i wouldn't mind putting fritsch up the field and bringing garlett back. playing against his former team might be a good idea. 

harmes: where are all the harmes haters? you've got to play this guy every week as he is competitive.

Pedersen to come in for weideman. 

and as a final dig: to all of those watts fans, he had another irrelevant game yesterday while fritsch (our compensation) has been fantastic. time for people to admit that they dont know footy.

lastly, jason taylor needs to be given a contract extension. nailed early picks in oliver, petracca, brayshaw but also looks to have hit with later picks in spargo, fritsch and hannan.

as a side note, now that spargo has showed his potential d.johnstone will be out the door at seasons end

As good as the dominance yesterday was and at the risk of spoiling everyone's party we haven't beaten anyone yet. Maybe North but Brisbane, Gold Coast, Essendon and St Kilda currently 14th, 15th, 16th and 18th on the ladder. 

We play the 17th team, Carlton, this week.

So while it is pleasing to have the opportunity to get some percentage, some wins and gain confidence playing footy our way, some of the over the top commentary on here is totally and utterly ridiculous.

Yes only beaten one good team but were winning games we are supposed to. Never used to be a sure thing. Crows game will be interesting. If we win that after a win against carlton would you be on the bandwagon?

Can't agree more.  They are just a rough indicator as to what may have happened on the day if you aren't watching.  But, having watched the match, his impact on the game was minimal and not even close to being AFL worthy Danelska.  Weid has shown us something vs the Tiges and more so vs the Saints.  He has given us that chop out and structure that many here keep blurting on about and,  for those of us which are blessed with vision, is bleedingly obvious.  Great efforts.  But like any rookie they are up one week down the next.  To maintain your spot most players need to perform at a level more weeks than they don't.

As i said, twice (which is conveniently ignored by some), i also think he will be retained by the FD against the Blues, even though he is the obvious out for Viney after yesterday.  Tyson seems the more likely alternative option.  Spargo next cab but would be quite a weird out IMO and he would be very unfortunate.

Rookies are prone to being in for a few weeks, and then sent back for further development, finding form and taking advantage of an injury or out of form player to regain their place.  Has been happening for decades at other AFL clubs.  I don't see why it should be any different at the MFC or in the case of Weids.  He will come good in time and hold his spot i have no doubts.  But i will beg to differ with any others on here who seem to believe he is entitled to be an automatic inclusion every week, regardless of form.

Honestly, why post this? It’s obvious to anyone with eyes and probably those without that the Gold Coast aren’t very good. We know that. It would be fantastic to be basking over giving a quality side a flogging, but unfortunately we weren’t scheduled to play against a quality side.

People are allowed to enjoy wins, even against poor sides, without the usual grinches chiming in and pissing on the parade. It’s almost like getting some actual enjoyment out of football physically pains some people.

He must have done something to get a call up DJ.   I rarely see VFL matches live so i can't comment.

I think the Pedders for Weids argument in terms of it actually happening has bolted long ago 56 whether anyone outside the four walls thinks it would be better or not.

Pedders fell out of favour in his Rnd 2 match against the Lions and IMHO  would have to play an amazing block of games at VFL, one or two stand out blinders or see a key tall go down at AFL level before being seen again at senior level.  See Dunn vs Oscar 2016.

Time to move on.

Its great to get wins AS I STATED but there some of the commentary is a joke. And we all know how well Melbourne go when we get ahead of ourselves don't we??

Because it’s forum.... anyone with eyes can see that. 

Edit: I don’t agree wihave jnrmac often but we’re all different, we all have different ways of viewing things and expressing those views.. someone your age should be across this by now i would have thought. We’re all enjoying the success but MFCSS is still not far from the surface.

We can only beat the teams we are fixtured to play at any given time.  

To me, we rolled a rather average football side, but go back through the last few years and you'll see us either struggling or just falling over the line against some pretty average teams.

Yesterday's game shows some growth in terms of our ability to finish sides off and also some maturity in getting it done.  Stiffer competition will come this season that we'll have to stand up to, but after all the rubbish we've been through I'll celebrate a 70 point win as loudly as I want.

@Rusty Nails at least we're passionate about a players worth eh. I was thinking @binman could use his fancy stats thing and have a look at Weideman play by play and give a dispassionate take on his game - if he was so inclined.
