I suppose the outcome was 2 QCs made their case, the tribunal considered it, and may or may not have paid any weight to his claim that he didn't intend to hit Brayshaw, probably inferred by his unblemished record and implied by his character references.

It was an abberation, that he’s taking full responsibility for. These things happen sometimes to all of us. 

I recall arguing with my now ex-wife while playing tennis (I was playing, she’d walked onto the court to berate me). I was frustrated, at the far end of the court from her, she finished speaking turned to walk off through gate... and I hit the ball in frustration back over net, opposition and straight on to the top of her head as she walked through the gate... did/didn’t mean it and was cringing before the ball hit her. But it did. She wasn’t happy (understandably), I apologetic and ashamed of losing control like that...

Personally i don’t think he was aiming for the chest at that moment. 

He is very lucky to get 8 weeks

This is where we differ.  I think Mr and Mrs Brayshaw would be equally magnanimous if it was a player from a team that had no connection to any of their sons.  Or heaven forbid, if anything happened to their eldest son, Will who is currently on active duty in Afghanistan representing our country. 

I truly don't think diplomacy has anything to do with thow they have conducted themselves in recent days (or ever).  Just my thoughts.

Just to bring things back to the original topic for a moment. Heard something which may be of interest here. I can’t reveal the source but you will just have to trust me that it’s solid (if not I don’t really care), it seems that the coach and a number of leadership players from WC have been hounding/niggling Gaff about not making a decision at training and during games for about the last 4 weeks, and Gaff is said to be very uncomfortable about this. So much so that his parents have been traveling to the games to provide support for him as he is said the be really struggling with it.

No mention of whether this is making him want to leave or not, so make of it what you will.

If I was in the same boat I would be more inclined to leave under those circumstances.

Compare the Brayshaw family's demeanour with facebook nuffies who whip up a frenzy if someone next to them on the plane farts.

Dignity compassion and restraint in the face of a genuinely upsetting incident. Admirable and a great example.

Having sons playing for both clubs puts the family in a compromising position. It has to. 

That doesn’t mean they don’t have compassion. 

I was asked earlier if i could forgive someone if they hit my brother in the same way. 

I would want nothing to do with them. 

Trust has been severed.

The feeling I got was the same. Can't quite put my finger on it but I just feel like they would have acted the same way if Hamish wasn't at West Coast. The fact that Mark came out and said what he did this early when the family could have stayed silent.

Having said that I do see the point of view that they had to think of Hamish's position as well. An 18 y.o kid in his first year at a footy club, it wouldn't have put him in the best spot if this wasn't handled very delicately.

if eagles now miss top four and/or have a poor finals series there might be a bit of animosity towards him as he would have been a big part of any finals success. maybe another reason to leave?

One day in not so distant future we are going to be going through something like this ourselves. When a Brayshaw or Oliver or Hogan or someone of that ilk wants to go $ chasing or move back home. Id love it not to be so but its the way of the current game. I think come that time, we're all going to be hoping the players put at least  a BIT of pressure for who ever it may be to stay. But in agreement with what you written...putting too much on can be the worse possible thing.
