1.2 mil for an outside runner is ludicrous... I can see exactly why he would go to norf. And why we would pull out at that figure.

Would rather hedge our bets on Billy and hope he turns into something special.

Cant blame the club or the player when that sort of offer is on the table.

Absolutely reaks of desperation from norf. Especially considering they are paying well above market cost for Polec.

I think that's a bet we'd lose GCD

I do mean Billy Stretch.... Not Hartung.

Stretch was beginning to show something before he broke his toe this year.

I think the MFC is playing a dead bat to the Gaff discussion as we have bigger fish to fry, with finals looming.

There’s logic to Gaff to Dees, we need his type, have traded out of first round in draft so free agent seems our next move.

Gaff himself won’t flag his real intention till Weagles are out of finals, and if he nominated a finals team (ie us) he’ll delay till we’re done.

Did Gaff win a flag out west? If not which team in Victoria is most likely, and need his type..?

?

I understand the dislike of North, but how can you call them underachieving in one breath, and then say he would be mad not to come to us in the next? Sure, we have a fabulous young list with a bright future, but we’ve done nothing for a long time. North finished 2 games behind us and have some exciting young players. If Gaff is offered $400,000 a year more by North, where do you reckon he is going?

Actually, your right 'TC' !

I think they might have outscored us, Re Premierships-Won, over the past Half Century.

Don't think he'll nominate until WC is out of the finals. Would be a shocking thing to do, to walk out on a club while they are still playing.

Thanks for reiterating @Mickey ?, that just what I said!

Go Dees!

Gaff is coming to Melbourne!

Why would he want to go anywhere else...

Sorry, I read your post as saying he wouldn't nominate until we we're out, as you expected him to nominate us.

Hope you enjoyed watching us play in front of 91k Andrew in the home of football.. because you sure as hell wont be experiencing any of that playing at norf..?

Importantly, Gaff's dad is rehab and recovering.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-09-14/stuff-to-think-about-gaff-confirms-roos-interest

Gaff has been back in Perth for the last few weeks and it looks like he is planning to stay at the Eagles.

The 26-year-old has had plenty to consider since his season-ending suspension and father Paul's recent heart scare, but hoped to remain an Eagle beyond 2018.

"Yeah, I hope so. It's still something we're working through with my management and the club," Gaff told radio station Mix 94.5.

If he does, good on him for spurning the North $.

Did he knock back our offer too? Intriguing what has happened here.

Like Lever last year I'd been quietly confident Gaff was most likely coming to us but my feelings changed with the king hit, it was out of character but also shocking vision and I thought wow what effect is that going to have on his psyche and confidence? Although I'd still love to have his football ability, you just can't take the fact back he did serious structural damage to a young player who happens to be the brother of one of our brightest stars. It was a clear yes for me before the incident and a cloudy yes after. With the way our Club is being built I don't think we'd be willing to pay Andrews pre incident price.

Did anyone else notice how despondent he looked sitting in the coaches box v Coll then Simpson appeared and gave him a punch in the shoulder to gee him up a bit, he smiled in response but to me looked like he absolutely did not want to be there.

i reckon he'll be a shadow of himself when he returns to the game.

Won’t be at wce.

Will join the dees on a front loaded deal and therefore not affecting others in a year or two!

Would not be surprised to see a deal done between the two.

Just have a sneaky feeling there is a lot more to play out on this.

I think we are still a chance of getting him.

Believing that his punch links into his decision making about his future, is as useful as looking at tealeaves.

FWIW, I'd imagine OMAC is on a lower $ contract to accomodate someone who is locked in...for the next two years...with an understanding that he will bump up in significant value...in 2020.

Again my hunch comes back to Mahoney and his overt statements that we will land 1-2 significant players. The relationships between clubs and players are formed over many many months, not just the last quarter of a year...it'll take more than $ to lure Gaff to North...

My feel is he is ours... and he'll get a good look at our squad again this weekend :)

Particularly when he said that North "are one of the clubs interested".

Why not mention another club that 'isn't playing finals' like a St Kilda or Carlton?

My guess is that the other clubs interested (or he is interested in) are playing finals and it's being very well suppressed.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
