Just watched the Roos/Saints replay. I’m concerned about marking contests, and north’s ability to run fwd in numbers and string a few - albeit sloppy - possessions together...

their contested game wasn’t too unlike ours, although we have Oliver’s quick hands and better stoppage clearance due to petracca’s and jones’ ability to command ground.

the discussion on brown/frost and a free lever is valid, but not at the expense of effective marks and clearance work around the ground.

shall be another tight one I think, but we might just have the edge - go dees!!!

That's exactly how how game in Rd 9 last year panned out. Yes the umps were shiite and we didn't have Gawn or Hogan but make no mistake their plan has always been to pressure our ball carriers because we overuse it and cough it up. We are also terrible in the air. They have also jumped us in the first qtr a lot (even ignoring the game in the wind at Tassie)

I am looking at this game as huge test for Goodwin. He we come out in the first qtr (so far this year we have been good), how we move the ball fwd and run back when they have it. And if they get a run on what our plan to stifle them is...

He has lost twice to these muppets. If we lose again I'll lose my rag.

I'm not sure we an play Hannan and Fritsch in the same side at the moment. If Bugg is to go, I'd prefer that he's replaced with a forward with stronger defensive credentials.

Agree on Hunt. It would be great to see him get back to his 2016 form.

Unless there is an injury between now and Saturday, I'll take a punt and say no change.

Don't think our players down at Casey have had enough match time to make a call. I would like to see a game or two more of good form. Outside chance of someone like Brayshaw maybe for Hunt. But a pretty solid away win with no apparent injuries and I think the MC will back the same 22 in against Nth at the MCG.

Gut feel is that Nth will try and isolate Brown in the forward 50 and Omac to take that role, Lever can intercept with the assistance of our mid/small defenders as part of the zone. Don't see an obvious match up for Frost. Maybe Waite if they push him forward, but he roamed HF and delivered into Brown on the weekend and that worked pretty well in the second half. Nth could pull some surprises and go with two rucks against Gawn, maybe bring in Mason Wood.... but they won by 52 points, I can't see too many changes for their side either. 

.... I'd love for them to try bringing Daw into their defence this week!!!

The big problem that we will have is space inside our 50. North will flood and we need to lower our eyes and hit targets who are strong above their heads. Im thinking harmes with pedo further out. Fritsch can mark and crumb. Jeffy needs to crumb only.

Id would be looking at hibberd and melksham to be kicking on the run from outside 50 to beat the flood.

We need to hit their midfield hard

They didn't play Daw in Rd 2.  He was probably a 4 or 5 goal advantage to us in the JLT game.

I'd be happy if we made no unforced changes for this game.  We certainly had under performers against the Lions, but I didn't see any obvious cases of lack of effort/intensity and think there is something to be said for giving players a good opertunity to establish some individual form and stability for the team overall.

I'm far more confident going into games against contested ball winning sides, than I am quick sides. I think we have the best inside mids and forwards in the game. We are an 8-10 goal better side than North if you're going to directly compare inside grunt. My only concern is rebound 50s. If we can improve our transition, no reason why we can't pummel them into the ground.

I'm hearing there is no change to the side this week. This could well be wrong, but it would hardly be surprising as Goody has shown he will back in the players that get that win for him.

No reason...other than we don't seem to be able to pummel any team into the ground. Even when we get 7 goals up with half a match to go.

No change would be a strange coaching move but it would not surprise me.

Goodwin has never been one to pick a side for the conditions/ opposition so why start now?

I reckon I'm batting at one for twenty-four at trying to pick Goodwin's teams on a Thursday night. I keep telling myself that he knows the players far better than I, but I've seen enough to know that Josh Wagner is not taking us forward.

i get the sense that wagner is a player that the coaching dept 'trusts' will do the required defensive actions

if there is no change it'll be interesting to see how knackered they are having played in the heat off the back of a six day break, as opposed to the aints' whopping nine day break from their good friday abomination 

I heard Goodwin's interview on SEN early this week and he was effusive with his praise for Bugg, so I won't get my wish of him being dropped.

It won't surprise me at all if there's "no change".

We have a standard 7 day break with North having one extra day's break.

Both clubs played in 23 degree heat, however our game was far more humid.

I'd be really disappointed if we can't run this game out considering their full time professional athletes and we have a 7 day break.

That's fine if he plays. He seems to attract the ball which is a good thing.

But any danger he can kick 2.2 or 1.3 instead of his usual 0.3 with an out of bounds on the full. We would've been lauding his game last week if he kicked 2.1.

In the corresponding game last year he kicked 0.4. If he kicked 3.1 we would've won. 

According to Tom Morris Hunt will be dropped.

I would assume that Frost will come in.

Needs some time in the VFL. Hasn't been the same player since he was knocked out last year.

That'll work. You don't lose that much pace and gain some height and better impact in marking contests. I think Hunt has been getting lost in the first two games. Was better on the weekend but needs to really work on his new role further up the ground especially his positioning.

North are a good marking side. Really hope we're not found out again this week with that being a major issue.
