He could be a superstar if puts in the hard yards.

And eats less of his mums pasta.. if he really wants to improve his endurance, reduce the mass bro! He’s got so much going for him:

- commands ground with his bulk, like a Sherman tank

- always finds his feet, like a cat you’ve thrown off a roof (figuratively)

- has goal sense, like a frenzied sniper in Afghanistan

- is an aerialist, like a red bull stunt pilot, and

- gets the team and crowd going with his infectious celebration, like its Merv doing stretches

Ok, so I might have over exaggerated there... but you get the point.

I couldn't agree more,  'scsy'.

I would keep trac in the forward line. He makes good positions down there and has good goal sense. Just needs confidence with his kicking. I am a bit on the side with @olisik when it comes to speed.

DL, this is a thread from the star of the 2018 season.  Interesting that some had their concerns about his pace back then.

The other thing I found interesting was that there were a few "starting" midfields proposed.  I think you would be hard pressed to find a starting midfield for 2019 that doesn't include Harmes.

Yep, great forward skills and intent that could be devastating if he went for goal, more often, preferably on the run in quick plays. Great in close to weave and deliver around opponents - or just find the starting point for his own line towards goal.

He thinks fast. You don't need to move fast when you can do that.

Williams at Carlscum and the Swannettes proved that years ago - fast thoughts, fast actions, slow pace. Big points.

And here come the armchair high performance managers to tell us that Petracca needs to lose weight.

i'd be more concerned about his knee than his weight. he seems to be having a bit of trouble with it this preseason. not sure what the issue is, maybe just needs a clean out done on it hopefully.

Maybe his obesity is the cause of his knee issues?

I want him to play more midfield minutes in 2019. His mix of x-factor, power and decision making is what we often lack in the midfield (with the exception of Clarry).

I'd still have him forward 40-50% of the time, but we need him to take the next step this year and that means more midfield time.

He has to get over his knee problems first. Not fit enough to play more minutes in the midfield, give him a good knee and a couple of years and he'll definitely have more minutes in the midfield.

Diesel Williams was slow but very quick.

i. What is Instagram and don’t say social media, as most bearing that title can be  more antisocial than social

Spot on he might be lucky to start anywhere in March.

I reckon there will be many hairless AFL Coaches, end of this season alone that will be directly as a result of Petracca on the forward line..

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
