Goddam i just listened to about 4 of those new Recordings.

They are awful, blank and soulless

these are Victory songs, with the old Fable Singers you could tell they were enjoying themselves, these new recordings are almost serious

what the hell happened to

“Take 2...Loosen it up a bit boys...”??

They do need to be re done....

The arrangements of the theme songs are so dated.

... but I wouldn't trust the AFL to be involved, they have no idea of what constitutes music good or bad.

Such a silly comment. As if the bombers would change their motto because it represents bombing, As if Collingwood members would know what a cakewalk was but what supporter would change that. As if any demon person could imagine dumping should auld acquaintance be forgot.  These outdated lyrics are the DNA of the supporter preserved by tradition and not the possessions of the AFL corporates.

I understand they’re in a Hurry to celebrate, but after a victory, can the players sing it properly? They sound like Alvin and the chipmunks.

Yep.......Out with training camps and in with singing lessons

It is a non-solution to a non-problem. Very AFL.

So true. It is not hard to digitize an old analog recording.

Imagine if all the Beatles songs were rerecorded and “modernized”

the AFL are just obsessed with tinkering every year.

It is a disease

I don't understand what you are talking about here.

I'm talking about the 70's arrangements taken off music styles of the early 1900's being dated...not about the lyrics.

I think lyrics (words) and melody are integral to the song and shouldn't be changed, the arrangements are not.

I know I'm probably in the minority but those arrangements are bland to my way of thinking and should be updated.

My, we are a conservative bunch. Tradition from the 70's

...reminds me of a cricket interview recently when the player (can't remember who) said he would hate to see any major changes to the format of the traditional game.

He was talking the one day 50 over format. Traditional my .....

Our theme song "melody" is an American song written by George Cohan about the American flag.

As you can see the words are almost the same

Would be nice if we could have our own song.

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high-flying flag,
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of the land I love,
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'Neath the Red, White and Blue,[N 4]
Where there's never a boast or brag.
But should auld acquaintance be forgot,[N 5]
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Perhaps we could start with an MFC Song and then when we are ready get rid of the old one.
Bit like the Republic Debate perhaps. Who knows we could even be Girt by Sea !!

Oh yes you are in the minority...

What do you want? A tune that has a similar arrangement to what The Eagles sing, or worse the Shockers.

The Fable Songs embrace some tradition of where the game has come from, and they have a jovial quality that the modern arrangements sadly lack.

At least the GW$ Song has some swing to it, these other modern tunes are just boring

They would still be shite and over rated.

Absolutely not. If we want to get rid of everything American, then we’d get rid of fixed ladders and do promotion and relegation. Do away with grand finals and have the team that finished on top declared premiers. Not everything American is evil.

He was talking the one day 50 over format. Traditional I am half in agreeance with you. I remember supporters singing the themes song in the days before the ground p.a coached the crowd when and how many times to sing. What we don't need is new jazzed up 'clean' vocals drowning out the patrons.

This looks like a job for Kremlin hackers to me.

The results could be a) hilarous and defamatory, or b) awesome Red Army choir material.

Either way, worth the try.

Why oh why is there a banjo twang in the background????  That most definitely is not MFC.

So is this 'cos they couldn't find any rule changes to make this year; had to put their grubby mits on something?

I'm not that fussed, if we have the kind of success that is currently looking possible then this version will become the theme song for a whole generation of young Dees supporters imbibed with the spirit of winning. Any conservative sentiments we older crowd hold now for the old one won't mean [censored], and hopefully in 5 years the new one will harken memories of the 3-5 flags we've just won.

But also [censored] Gil, dude's still a [censored].

I don't mind the re-record, but I don't know that it was necessary. I'd be interested to know if the backing track was actual people playing instruments or just computer generated MIDI samples.

There was something almost warm about the classic recording, but I guess these should be clearer over the speakers. Ultimately at the ground I doubt it'll sound much different.

Listened to both ours and the Dawks and we got off lightly.

I was expecting the next bar after 'we're a happy team at Hawthorn' for them to be 'as you tip toe through the tulips with me'.

I sit in on a guitar group that play in the local bar in the village I live in. Have done so for years. After a lot of red wine and talking I got them to do a Spanish guitar version of Grand Old Flag. I get it played when we win, usually very late at night when we have all had enough.

Had a few lost Aussies that had wandered into the bar and not believed what they were hearing.

Would love to hear this if you've got a recording somewhere

So finally listened to the new version today. Are the people whinging serious?

There's so little difference between the two recordings, it's barely even worth a mention.
