we have the mostly red already with the red-back clash jumper. there are 2 clash jumpers now

A red jumper with a blue yoke (even more red) would be an effective clash jumper when the red back and home jumper doesn;t suit and it would mean we wouldn't have to have a different shade of blue.

Again, I like the royal blue but would prefer the inverted option.

i like the inverted option too, but i think they wanted something lighter again for even less clash.

a more acceptable compromise than predominate white (/silver)

my major gripe was the long list of clubs  they claim it will be used for in away games. many of these are not real clashes.

I would argue that a mostly red jumper is just as light as royal blue but that's neither here nor there.

The whole AFL policy on clash jumpers and even white shorts is a mess, how they haven't fixed this is a joke.

agree about away white shorts. should be able to use a coloured one as long as is different from opponent

the nrl allow coloured shorts for away game strips

next thing for afl to fix is umpire clash uniforms - lol

Agree with all of the above in a general sense.  Would be ok with a predominantly red with navey clash jumper next season so long is the design is generally attractive and sufficiently aligned with MFC traditional emblems/designs, should the AFL be willing to accept that under another interpretation/rethink of their requirements.

White shorts are ok, but we should NEVER EVER AGAIN acept white as part of our playing jumper design.

All clash jumpers are rubbish because they're just not necessary.

Except for when they clash.

All 3 of our jumpers look good now: could never really warm to the white even though I didn't hate it quite as much as many supporters

Maybe going against the grain, but I did struggle to pick the jumpers on the other side of the ground prior to the 'clash jumpers'.  If I had to do it in a split second, i'd be stuffed.  I think our problem has been firstly we haven't had a clash strip that has been popular amongst the fans, and secondly, we've never kept one long enough for anyone to feel any connection to.

Prefer the Royal Blue version to any of the white one's previously used. Really like the version of the clash jumper that has the red back.

Well done to the club's administration.

Not enough choices in the poll. I voted "love it" but the total truth is that it is better than most of what has gone before it. Always hated the royal blue number in the 70s and 80s though. So it's relatively better than the white number, ok, but love it is a bit too strong.

Neither Hate nor Love it    ...  But  I  loathed the white jumper    the red was OK far better than the white.   I didn't think we clashed as we are now  and the Royal blue does bring back images of Robbie Flower,   my 2 bobs worth...

Love it!  Who said the Umps aint on our side?  If they dress in the same colours as us, surely that counts for something!?

But if I recall correctly we handpassed to them and kicked it to them and the umpires did not have even one effective disposal. No for me it's back to white you maggots.

Yes, your memory is good.

Yep, MD, with stats like that, they would have fitted right in with our mob, based on a lot of our previous performances!  LOL

(Scully was absolutely incredible that night too)

This is my favourite clash jumper ever. If we have to have a clash strip this is it.

This is a Melbourne jumper, in fact it's the Melbourne Jumper I fell in love with as a little kid. I fell in love with it because it's the jumper Robbie Flower wore. When I drew Melbourne jumpers incessantly as a kid, this is the jumper I drew, I didn't use the dark blue texta.

I was in my teens when we reverted to Navy, I love the Navy and that's our strip, always will be. But this clash is unmistakably Melbourne. Our Jumper is blue with a red yoke, not the other way around, not white, not silver, not a logo or picture on the chest.

Well done to the club, can't believe nobody thought of this sooner. I hope we keep keep this and the redback jumper for our clash strips for a very long time and put this argument to bed forever.

Agree wholeheartedly, especially with the bolded part.

Agreed.

I like the royal blue and I think it's an improvement on the white jumper we've been wearing in the past.

But according to the article on our website we'll be wearing six out of our 11 away games, with a further two games in the red-back. We only properly "clash" with about two clubs.

Had about a million disposals in the last quarter. Almost pulled us over the line for a win. After that game I was excited to have him in red and blue. I was naive.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
