Another great interview boys. Demonland podcast is the best form of MFC media.

I thought Taylor's comments on Petty were a bit ambiguous. He said if there is "a jet" available at your pick you need to take them but otherwise player type and list needs comes into it. he started realing off all the similar player types to Petty as if we had a surplus and therefore had to take Petty because we rate him as a jet. Then he seemed to play it down and say we needed that type of player. Did anyone else read it like that?

On a different note, would it be possible to do a ‘No T$ No B$’ version of the podcast? Where we can just fire random questions towards the hosts (within the bounds of good taste and common sense of course)?

Hmmm ... without wanting to get too picky, I don't think I have seen the three bolded bits above collected together in this way, unless it is the No T$ No B$ thread and 'lack of common sense' ... :D

Thanks for asking the question that I raised.  It was interesting to hear that JT and his team have a significant amount of weight in the decisions that are made on the night.  He is certainly confident of his, and his teams ability to find the right players for us, and Goodwin gives him that respect too.

Probably makes me ask the next lot of questions though.  Are all senior coaches like that?  Do any coaches put their foot down and demand we take "x" player instead of "y"?  Do any recruiters put them on the line and overrule a senior coach?

I remember talking to Ben Mathews a couple of years ago.  He told me that Roos' view was that we built the team the wrong way back in the Bailey and Neeld era - built from outside in, rather than inside out - hence why we needed to start again.  So, if that was the directive from the coaching team, then any wonder the recruiters got it wrong so often during that time.

That said, I would've thought Bailey would be of the same ilk as Goodwin in this regard (meaning the recruiters got it wrong).  Neeld, I'd imagine, would've been the demanding type.

We had limited time with Jason only because he was attending and I think speaking at a function in Darwin. That follow up question re: are all coaches the same was one I also wanted to ask but there were other questions we wanted to get to as well. I imagine that the answer is no not all coaches are the same.

Yeah, I'd reckon Neeld wouldn't be Goodwin-esque.

While I think Bailey would've been similar to Goodwin, I wonder how much CEO-influence there was in some of the selections during his tenure...

I think we had too many of the wrong people getting involved in areas they shouldn't have at that time...the board, CEO, friends and influencers have a lot to answer for.

OMG - from somebody who has clearly never spent any time with Bails, Goody or Neeldy. But I'm glad you did clarify it and say you "would've thought" hence clearly stating it was only your opinion.

IMHO you should never judge a man till you have met him - so I'm going to pass no judgement on you. Except to say you are very critical of many of our ex-employees who gave nothing but there best & maybe as a club we let them down just as much as the other way.

Since the AFL has stepped in to fix our main issues bitterness, hate, overt criticism hopefully is a thing of the past. Today we have a bright future.

The board is normally a collection of MFC supporters elected by the MFC membership via election, the CEO is appointed by the board - the most honest assessment of our true situation was - the MFC have 90% of us going one way and 10% the other.

Today we are politics free with a CEO controlling our football club on a day-day basis and a board politics free looking after our long-term future.

Sometimes its easy to compare coaches, players, CEO's, board members, club employees but circumstances change and you may not be comparing apples with apples.

It's all cool. I'm Andy. I'm much cooler than Nasher even though he is more knowledgeable about the Dees. I'm glad you enjoyed the podcast.

You should check out our other interviews.

"You wouldn't say comparatively it's an absolute need but we rated Harry and that's a good selection to sure up our defensive stocks going forward"

I'd say they are really happy getting to pick Petty and it's a situation where we didn't need a young key defender in terms of really balancing the list but it was still a great opportunity to add a good player to an important position.

A best available pick but then a little diplomacy where he doesn't want to declare the kid a jet yet and also a nod to how nice it is to keep a deep list of talls

Hah - @Demonlandis the smooth host with a voice for radio, I'm the yammering nerd who blows in occasionally when they don't have a better guest! (Just jokes - was invited to participate in this one too but life got in the way)

The fact that we're both named Andrew probably doesn't help with the confusion ?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
