You are right. But the club should be told

how many other families have felt the same way?

i paid my membership with my MCC Subsciption, which is lucky for the club as i doubt i would have paid up otherwise.

That 1st Quarter of Round 23 was just so “soft Melbourne”

Losing crucial games won’t achieve anything either.

The club must be judged harshly on issues like this, if it isn’t, it will happen again and again

What’s the footy dept gunna do? Go back and win the game of footy?

Maybe realize they have to prepare the side to be ready to compete in the 1st Quarter

That part of our game has been pathetic for years

While my opinion means nothing, I agree with you SWYL. The club should know why up 15 members have not resigned. However I sincerely feel the FD doesnt actully care. Footy has become such big business that I feel the community has well and truly been forgotten. You only have to listen to 'footy people' speak to know that. Sitting in the outta with my 90 year old father seeing him weep that day made me realise (not for the first time) that to many supporters football is far more than 'just a game'.

Try telling my father 'there is always next year'.

I mean, if it will make you feel better go ahead and let them know people aren't re-signing because of round 23. I'm sure they know that will happen already anyway. I just don't know what you think the benefit/outcome of emailing them would be? Do you think next time they're playing a crucial game they'll be thinking "we cant lose this otherwise we will have more members drop off"?

You are luckier in Sydney than we are in Adelaide, as far as airfares go. We can sometimes get a cheap one-way flight to Tulla but usually it is a way out single direction to Avalon. The return trip costs up to 6 times the discount fare paid to get to Melbourne and seldom are there 'both ways' tickets at discount. To achieve these 'discounts' and airline profit opportunities, we usually must travel on a Wednesday and return on a late Sunday flight that would be readied overnight for a return to Melbourne on Monday morning. That means finding relatively cheap accommodation Wed,Thurs, Fri and Sat - usually about $240/night. For two, it is expensive. We drive over quite a bit to see the Dees, averaging about 6 or 7 trips per year and each trip takes about 10 hours each way at the speed limits. Still, we love our footy and team so we sacrifice. At least we get some reasonable TV and cable coverage, these days. Combine our Memberships with a pie and a beer at the game, and car rentals if we fly, then we have a millionaire's hobby to contend with just to stay in touch with our interest. Is that any way to treat a 'purebred' Melbourne boy in his retirement? Hahahahaha ha....

That sucks, expensive return flights and flying on a Wednesday (that's too early for my liking). We usually fly down on a Thursday after work and back on a Monday/Tuesday. I'm originally from Melbourne so I have family and friends down there and have accomodation options, plus Melbourne has great public transport. The effort you guys put in driving over is massive, hats off to you, and yes gotta love Fox Footy.

Mrs Bombay Air is a certified legend.

If we beat Geelong in round 1, get her to plan September for you.

That she is but I'll hold the horses for now, prior to round 23 this year I had her looking at possible flights....

My 92yo father came to the football with me, my daughter and my brother and saw a win just before he passed away. He had not renewed his membership because of his mobility problems however the Club still sent him a scarf. He died thinking we might be Premiering contenders this year.

Got my membership pack today, got 2 scarfs for some reason lol, I have also signed my son up and will sign my 2 year old daughter and 6 month old son after Christmas, nearly didn’t after the round 23 debacle club is on there last chance FINALS OR BUST

Unfortunately contacting the footy department will have no impact.

I don't believe they listen to us, the members, (that includes me who remains as yet unsigned after round 23).

Last 2 years I have asked them not to send YET ANOTHER SCARF in my pack.

Made no difference because they are not listening. I want a year patch I can sew onto my scarf, not a new scarf every flaming year.

What, I'm going to find a use for them? It's landfill.

They just want my money and despite taking out my first membership in 1964 I'll be blowed if I will support them in 2018.

What's it matter - the AFL will prop us up anyhow, my cash won't make a scrap of difference in this day and age.

I think you received my scarf, I didn't get any with my pack.

Did you also receive your sons membership today? There's 5 of us signed up in this household but I was the only one to get a pack.

Ditto (two scarves and Trac on my tik). Shirley there's a better action shot of Trac that could have been used.

I love the way supporters are the club when it suits them, and "they" are the club when it doesn't.

We are all the club. Get on board, pay your membership and be a supporter. We won't be going anywhere with fickleness like this.

Disagree with this.  Everyone has the right to decide.  Essentially over the past 11 years we have had an inferior product.  If any business had a product that bad for that long they would have shut their doors.  Our supporters have kept this club alive for an extended period, like our players each supporter decides whether they buy in and turn up each week.

Circumstances change both my kids now support other teams you try to steer them towards the team you support but they eventually decide who they will support.  Them supporting other teams comes down to on field performance easy to convince kids when your team is winning when their not is easy for their mates to convince them to change.

Spot on Dr.

I lost my daughter to the Bombers 30 years ago for exactly the same reasons.

I can't imagine my two boys growing up to support other teams. It would break my heart. The 4yo is well and truly indoctrinated hopefully that won't change. The 2yo is still very young but on the way.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
