He has pace, but we have enough half back types.  I'd rather a pure midfielder with pace if we can find one.

Was considering coming home after his first season.
Would be a good option to release Salem to a wing. Pretty hard to counter Hunt, Hibberd, Saad.

Would like to see meters gained as well.  Could leading the running bounces just mean they bounce the ball more than needed?  Not all, but certainly most players on that list would be light weights in terms of impact in games.

I recon Saad could play as a mid more so than some of our other running backs.

He could be very interesting as an outside mid.

I'd be all over Saad, though is he big enough to play down back when we already have the diminutive Jetts?

If he is part of the Suns firesale, he might come relatively cheaply. Is a third round pick too hopeful?

Billy bounces because he runs in circles, can't make a good decision & can't kick.

In my head it works but I'll back Viney and the boys to make the right decision. If cheap the experiment of him as a wing hff, potentially even a shut down forward with explosive 2 way running excites. But the minds eye is often rosy in colour so I'll stick with the first sentence

Saad had a tendency to bounce every 2 steps. With short legs that doesn't add majorly to meters gained

Meters Gained Stats: https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_rankings?year=2017&rt=LT&st=MG

14. Hibberd - 10,017

20. Hunt - 9,591

70. Saad - 6,986

84. Jones - 6,794

89. Tyson - 6,653

The bounce stats are a good example of how misleading these things can be sometimes. It would be interesting to see a comparison of meters gained with a score (for or a turnover against) shortly after, say, within the next minute. That's the value of meters gained. Spray a long kick out of def 50 and it is likely to slingshot back over your head for an oppo goal. Lower the eyes for a lead and mark inside our 50 and bingo, goal.

Exciting player with a lot of room for improvement. I'd say yes at this stage.

Would a third round pick get it done? Still young and I don't think hes even played 50 games yet.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
