Trade rumours

Can someone explain the weird topic of alcohol in Mahoneys Hogan report?

Mahoney was also adamant that Jesse Hogan would remain at Melbourne, after rumours over Grand Final weekend suggested that the key forward was gettable for Western Australian clubs.

“It’s probably not a good combination – alcohol and trade period,” he said.

“People like to throw around rumours and run their own agendas a little bit, but I want to make this very clear – at no stage has Jesse Hogan been mentioned as a trade option.

I would imagine what he's saying is alcohol losens the tongue and lowers the intelligence. So what a person who claims to be in the know would say while drunk makes ripples at the moment.

Fair enough. I was not expecting anything comedic in that mahoney report and it caught me off guard. Hilarious comment now.

He was asked about the rumours that were circulating at the grand final - which was the alcohol comment =)

Mark Robinson? In general?

FFS, read the original series of tweets. That's not what the trade is. It''s effectively an upgrade of 10 for 5, which would cost us O Mac.

I said PART of any trade.

With Dew to be appointed GCS coach, I wonder if they'd part with pick 2 or keep it to develop a young draftee

Guys, I'm begging you, if you have a rumor about a player, please put it in its own thread.  Some of us are busy & have to read thru pages & pages of opinions & arguments to find one or two rumors. It's driving me crazy. Pleeeeez. You can still present your views in seperate threads.

What was Martin like back then? Were there obvious signs he would be, shall we say, a singular individual?

How would i know? Try reading what people write instead of what you want to read into it.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room Thread took a chill pill last year. Do we really need to have another JH thread? The rumours only deserve a few pages in here.

Martin wasn't any better than Scully or Trengove at the time we Drafted them back then. He is now.

Had an email from friend who said that within the club there was a difference of opinion on the best course of action was with Jack at the end of the season. While there was agreement on what was initially put out there, there is a bit of dis-satisfaction about how it has so far run its course and the framing of the perception that he is out the door and it is shut behind him.

I think the relationship between the Club/footy department and Jack is not completely ruptured and there is a fair chance that Jack will be in Red and Blue next season. I have been told it is 50/50 at this stage. Staying or going will be dependent upon how the trade period unfolds, what might be offered for Jack and what deals and opportunities might come our way.

I think it will be a very fluid situation with jack the whole way through the trade period and the longer it takes to do a deal the more chance there is of him remaining.

As to the Lever situation, would Neal-Bullen added into the equation some how swing it? not sure how it could be worked.

Clearly the Mfc did an abysmal job of trading out Watts.  I'd put money on Sydney with a second rounder coming back, if Sydney are generous.

I can imagine there's plenty of unhappiness. Even Jones looks like a fool now for putting the boot in thinking it was about pushing higher standards, now it's just become pushing Watts out the door.

Watch Jones come out at B&F saying "he hopes Wattsy stays"...

Surely the Kent for Balic trade has been mentioned plenty here.  Granted it's not the most exciting trade.

I had Kent in best 22 at the start of this year, still think he and Frost have more impact potential than the guys holding them out (OMac and Hannan?)

Would keep Kent.

Abysmal in the sense we didn't talk him up? Club recruiters aren't stupid - they know what Jack is worth, and we've said through the lines that we wouldn't let him go for unders. He goes and we turn around Sydney's hypothetical second-round pick into a solid citizen like Hibberd while resolving some cultural issues. He stays, and has had the ultimate rocket, and we have a decent player on our list and maybe a heart-warming fairy-tale in the making. Win-win.

And I don't get the notion that only the WA clubs might be interested in Kent? Has he expressed a desire to return to Clackline? Has he even returned from Darwin after we deprived him of a special pillow? If Kent was any good, I assume several clubs would be interested - but why just the speculative WA ones because he's from that state?

Balic will come cheap, no need to trade Kent.

You heard it here first. #ETthetradebreaker.

Hope your right re all you say around the Watts situation.

Re Neal- Bullen...no way. Coming into his own as a really good player and wouldnt want to part with him. Adelaide have a decent deal in front of them already.

Keep in mind. Mr Watts has a contract. He can scupper anything he wishes.

So well thought through Melbourne !!!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
