Lang was lucky that his only decent game he has ever played was in a SF.

Would love for us to chase Menzel, adds major x factor and class to our forward 50 and is a huge upgrade on Harmes.

Menzel strikes me as a very Melb style deal.  Dare I say it..a 'moneyball' style thing.  i.e  A good player ( maybe not a star but the other side of handy ) Someone who has enough years left in him to be a sound investment by us, as much as by him  in us !! ( if that makes sense )

To be honest, I'd love to see Watts go. Absolutely nothing against him, in fact I love the mean, but I'd like nothing more than to see him improve and succeed. Unfortunately, and  I hope I'm wrong, I just can't see him living up to his potential at the Dees. No matter what happens, he'll always be one of my favourites

It's not even so much about losing Watts...Its about getting something better, and someone that is able to be traded for.

Just heard from my old man who deals with a few clients who are close to Melbourne officials,  that Gawn could be on the move as we are looking to use him to secure Lever and retain our top picks to then get Gaff. They believe with the way the game is evolving that having that extra runner in the midfield in the form of Watts / Pedo / Tmac rotating in ruck we are less reliable on just winning hit outs and become more unpredictable.

Very complex deal, up to 4 clubs involved something along the lines of Gawn to GWS, their 1st rounder + 2nd rounder to Carlton, Gibbs to Adelaide, Lever to Melbourne. Our pick 10 for Gaff and looking to land another experienced player through free agency from Geelong, that's all I know (starting to think it's Motlop, wants a fresh start and would compliment as another outside runner and also to help support Jeffy and look to improve his forward line pressure)

Not shooting the messenger, but we lose Gawn for Lever? 
There would need to be bit more coming back than that you would think.  Also what doesn't make sense to me is that whilst I agree runners in the midfield is the way things are heading, why GWS who, if we are completely honest, have way too many quality talls to fit in already.
GWS looked a lot better without Mumford and Cameron in their side.... ie more run and more unpredictable. They have Patton, Simpson and Lobb as well. They seem to be playing Lobb out of position up forward, and they don't look right with Lobb, Cameron, Patton and Mumford in their team. Why add Gawn?

TBH the main thing I am taking out of any of these conversations is that we still need to turn over some of the list, and that the club is looking at all options.

The olny fly in the ointment is that we are getting rid of Spencer.  We have no 'insurance' if Gawn goes, and the ruck concept comes back into fashion.  We need good big men that can take contested marks (we were thrashed in this department all year).  

Gawn is worth more than Lever, so we would want to get a bucketload back if we were to allow him to move.  It would strike me as nuts, but I am not the FD.  Better is to redefine Gawn as a forward/ruck and rotate him more heavily.

Don't think it matters much anymore. Two players who have major knee operations featuring in possible trades.

Playing groups in old, old clubs playing like sixteen year olds, after a game that would make any other side prostate on the ground. Another team who have won one final in a thousand years with a Sheedy type snipability, as Flag be all to end all favorite.

Not forgetting the new TEN strikes and your out policy that comes in next season.

Wow, now Gawn is rumoured, so that makes Watts, Salem, Hogan even Tyson thrown up as possible trades to secure Lever.

Maybe we should go after Nathan Krakouer instead, would come cheap and I just read he busted up a taxi on the weekend.

Watts, Tyson and Salem realistically could both be traded as they have currency and are replaceable.
Hogan you obviously would not trade unless he demanded to be traded back to a WA club due to home sickness/family/health. If Hogan did leave we'd get a good trade coming our way so while it would be a loss, it could also be used as an opportunity to grow the list itself, similar to when Scully left.
I doubt we would trade Gawn as we have no other ruckman bar King on the list now with Spencer gone. We are already understocked for rucks, so why would we trade an AA quality one and leave ourselves with only a rookie? Gawn is also massive for us off field for marketing, more so than any of our other players IMO.

Not the worst outcome .. We played some of our best footy this year without Gawn.. Watts, pedo and tmac were incredibly effective rotating through the middle. And come to think of it.. Mummy is 31 now and clearly past his best. Getting Gawn as their permanent ruck makes sense. Could be a huge left field trade brewing here.

Couldn't agree more, we are one of the worst contested marking sides if not the worst in the comp and to trade Max for Lever doesn't make sense to me.

If Hogan or Max were to be traded and I would suggest they are two of our best at contesting marks I would want someone coming back that does the same or better.

Lever is great at intercepting but I'm not sure if that's a like for like.

Max gawn is not on the trade table, he is deep in negotiations about a long term extension. 

Depending on who you believe Salem is also not on the table.

Nothing is certain in football when it comes to trading. Hogan going home would depend primarily on if he wants to be traded back to WA. if he does the club will do what they can to extract what value they can out of the deal. There are very very few footballers on our list that are untouchable.
