Another small forward would be high on my shopping list, too.  I dont think Sideshow Bob was a ‘needs’ play, more an opportunistic one.  I would think we saw the opportunity and decided it was an unexpected windfall.  If he nominates us, he will play more games than most players selected in the second round of most drafts.  I also think you can’t judge a deal in isolation, and the final balance of the draft and trade period is when it is reasonable to assess the result.

Disagree with you again ... “We are confident his concussion issues are over ... "  Mahoney told SEN Breakfast. Seems like you're the one guessing

Well, why wouldn't they be, seeing as he played a few games for us when we first got him?  That would indicate he was over them, especially as there is no chance he would have played with concussion symptoms in this current climate.

He then got further knocks to his head and that has brought the symptoms back to the fore, as it would for anyone.

I'm not guessing.  Just the cold, hard facts right there.

Fair comment. I am on the opportunistic and to an extent there is nothing wrong with that, however I had hoped we were more strategic than that now.

It's the same on any forum.

Of course. But for some people, just blocking or ignoring isn't a solution. D'land, like most social media, can quickly turn personal, even nasty, and some people just don't need that in their lives. If that's the case here, good on Skuit for doing what he needs for his own well-being and mental health.

Fair point, bing.  If Skuit wants to step away for his own well being then he has my full support.

Hopefully he can stick around in the future as his contributions to the site are worthwhile.

Becoming???

If this is going to be a place for good, constructive conversation then it needs to be encouraged, and the sort of rubbish we've seen here needs to be discouraged.

It not only keeps good posters (which encourages other good posters) but it also attracts thoughtful posters who may be lurking and wondering if they'd like to make the step to become contributors.

Appreciate the suggestion guys (and others). But have had enough. I support free speech but if Demonland doesn't want to shut down obvious trolls or deliberately destabilising influences because it drives traffic then I'm out. See you in the soup. And please keep up the good fight. Go Dees!

Don’t let the b*****ds drag you down!

Take some time out if that’s what you feel you need. You’re welcome back anytime.

Yeah, get into cricket season where you can take your bat and ball home if things dont go your way Are you aware of the abuse I have copped just because I disagree with using our first pick on Ben brown

From the onset, you have by far been the most abusive person in this discussion. Anyone who disagrees with you was given a serve for absolutely no good reason.

Looking back, might've been better to lead with that argument. Valid point, although I disagree that means we don't chase Brown.

Future reference.

And what makes you think we're not targeting small forwards? This is nonsensical.

List management isn't about targeting one player and that's it. We're trying to address numerous weaknesses.

Tom McDonald is finished and has been since early 2019. Brown is a far superior player anyway.

As for Jackson, we shouldn't be expecting a second year tall and a still developing Weideman to be the key pillars up forward next year. Maybe by 2023.

In the meantime, we've secured Brown, we also secured Smith as another runner and are targeting small forwards as well.

I may have missed the news but have  Brown or Smith said they coming to Dees??

A couple of days ago. The news has only been confirmed on Demonland in the last two days by @Dr evil.

And this is why I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see us giving Ronke some consideration.

Fragile petal. Bunch of lightweights. None of you would talk to people about footy the way you do in a public environment. And so fragile you cannot cope with those who are not as enthused about the person we intend to use our first pick on this year as you.

I would absolutely love to.

On Jackson i reckon with brown and weed in the team he will play almost a half forward  utility role, such is his athleticism and ability below his knees.

Get up and down the ground the way Hogan - and tmac in 2018 - did. Be a marking option when exiting our back half and of course still be an aerial threat up forward.

He has unique attributes and of course he will do some rucking but I can also see him playing as a mid at times with Max rucking.

He is something special. Really looking to seeing him after his first full preseason, with some space at the g and proper length quarters.

Completely agree. Can see us holding our forward structure a lot better this way too.

Keep one or two of Brown or Weideman or Petracca always deep and the other up at CHF. Gawn and Jackson as the exit kicks as you say.

If it takes Weid 8 years to establish himself, then we may as well start looking for another young KPF to replace him.

I meant that it'll take Jackson at least a few years to hold his spot as a genuine KPF.

That’s what I thought, though I think Jacko might surprise us and develop rapidly. For me, if Weid fails to take the next step next year we may as well put a line through him as a KPF.

We shall see. If he can kick 30+ I'll be happy. I'm hoping Brown can kick 40+. If qe can get more goals out of midfield, Fritsch and role players we'll be well on our way to the finals.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
