Great goal Tommy!

TMac is a goal kicking machine now.

Tracc needs a huge second half

OMG obvious free to Plugger in the back on the siren

Bauty

Nice comeback Dees.....finding a way

Lucky to be this close!

Eventually the question is gonna need to be asked about whether T Mac just stays forward now. He's killing it.

Much better quarter from Kent.

We have been outplayed, but like a good side we've stuck with them and hauled them back.  They have a few injury issues and that goal gives us plenty of confidence, so there is no reason why we can't run over them in the second half.

Oliver has been immense and I feel as though Lewis and Vince have stood up a little for us when it was required.  Kent had a ripping second term as well which is exactly what we need, while Hoges getting a goal will give him confidence.

Does Petracca do enough on field for his potential? Always looks unfit and out of puff

The only way was up.

When Oliver got a free kick from Gibbs, a third player (possibly Wright) came in and pushed Oliver while he was waiting to get the ball back. How is that not a 50 metre penalty?

Good teams stay in the game, even when they aren't playing well.  That's exactly what we've done.

Yep, so typical of a Melbourne culture. Build the hopes up, then crash it all down in the blink of an eye. I fear this game will be over by half time, and so too the season.

Credit where it is due. Not pretty, but a good physical presence by us that quarter has got us right back in this. Carlton seem to be taking their eye off the ball, more intent on push and shove.

Don't know how we are so close looking at the stats.

55-28 marks in there favor. 9-3 contested.

lets not talk about clearances now...

Some glimpses of good play in that last 10 minutes but not stringing it together.

Hoping for a big second half

Which would be bad luck for Pedersen.

But Tommy is certainly looking good up forward, and his fill in ruck work is coming along.

If frosty can clean up his disposal and improve on his awareness, he is gonna be a great bloody player for us.

I mark him very hard and wouldn't have him in the team but he won back a few points in that quarter.

Need to take advantage of Carlton probably 2 players down. Much better because we didn't handpass as much.

Gee we better win because I have some annoying Carlton fans near me.

Technically it probably was 50m, but I think it was well umpired.

Getting smashed in clearances but Goodwin's more attacking game plan paying dividends.

Frost and Hibberd great great again. Old-timers Vince and Lewis OK.

Need a lift from Hannan, Gawn, Jesse and jeff.

It's early days and still think he'll be ok but T-Mac is slowly becoming the KPF we were hoping Hogan would become.  Imagine if Hulk gets up and going in the 2nd half of this year and we get Watts, Jones & Viney back

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
