AFL official Ali Fahour has been filmed committing a “sickening" king-hit attack on a rival.

Thought it was quite a good presser from Dill.

We live in a world where everyone wants answers now.  There wasn't a great deal the AFL could do until a process had played out.

That said, the next logical step is to review the process (i.e. why does it take days for the tribunal to sit?).  Will Dill do this?  Doubtful.

Good luck in the future Ali.

Hope you can find another bogus job  after you've done your course.

The Fahour family has done so well out of Australia haven't they.

I am sure Little Ali will be jobless for only a few days.

It's who you know...

He has 'stepped down'.  He has not resigned.  His actual resignation will be the indicator of his integrity and genuineness.

For all we know he may still be being paid eg sick leave, compassionate leave, annual leave.  The AFL precedent of paying an employee while suspended was set with James Hird.

It looks like a smokescreen and when the dust settles then it is business as usual and he will be back in the industry.

Any chance you may wish to retract this LH?  You set up a straw man based on an incredible level of cynicism about the leadership of the AFL and you are 100% wrong. Why would you even begin to think that it would be a smokescreen?

"AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan has accepted the resignation of former diversity manager Ali Fahour and said he would not return to the league in another role."

I usually find your posts sensible and informative, could not understand where your line of thinking emanated from in this case.

I saw that from Gil.  Yes, I am cynical when it comes to do the AFL.  The Essendon saga and the incestuous of the industry has worn me down.

My reference to 'back in the industry'  did not mean I thought he would be back in the AFL per se.  It was a more generic reference based on things like when Fahour was in strife in 2012 it was Demetriou that helped him.  AFL tentacles and influence spread far and wide. Fahour may not work directly in the AFL sphere again, I just wouldn't be surprised to see him turn up in a satellite non-AFL organisation but still in the industry, in a multicultural/liasion role of some sort.  Cynical?  Yes.  Realistic? Yes.

So the AFL have done nothing about Fahour because he has resigned himself?

Great stand on coward punches Gil.

Gotta feel sorry for the Media amongst all this. There you go, with the AFL standing as upright as the Vatican, with their glowing paragon to self cleansing perfection, and the Media stuck together like a bunch of old, rubbed out and retired, lepers on an island called Krakatoa.

If I know Arthur He would be raving about the Pho in Victoria St and the Halal snack packs on Sydney Rd.

He might be slightly concerned about the entire nations wealth being dependent on a bouyant housing market and Chinese speculation across our economy.

He'd probably study Greek dancing on a Tuesday night,Spanish cooking on Wednesday and Sudanese drumming on Thursday night.

On weekends he'd take a pill and go to a hardcore German rave party and come home with a bunch of Polynesian bouncer mates and smoke pipes till the Sun came up.

He would have a "Sheila " from every continent and a house in Bali.

He would be thinking ...

'What was I doing for all those years eating steak and kidney pie ,Morris dancing and shagging boring old buttoned up Mrs C and banging on about collectivism when I could have been a groovy man about town .

Fahour may no longer be an AFL employee but they will subsidise his anger management/counselling costs.   http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/afl-to-subsidise-ali-fahours-anger-management-counselling/news-story/c607320672d2be2c4c7f2187578b1ffc

So to some extent the AFL are still providing him with funds.  At what point do the AFL actually cut ties?

I hope the AFL support the victim and his family in the same way, as Saddington is yet to return to work and they were traumatised by seeing him go down before their eyes.  I suspect they haven't and probably won't.

I personally would be all for a Zero tolerance policy on punching.

1st offence = lifetime ban if it was intentional.

You can't as a code claim to be against violence against women, the coward punch and so on off the field but then only values punch on field as 6 weeks.

It comes down to duty of care mostly. Same way the AFL subsidised Ben Cousin's rehab (and offered the same support to James Hird). An employer has a certain amount of liability when it comes to things like this.

And I don't think it's helpful speculating whether the victim and their family have been offered support (other than to project your obvious distaste for the AFL's current administration). I think you'll find it's quite the opposite because, again, the AFL has certain liability in these situations.

Tis a shame they didn't exercise that same care before employing the dlckhead !! Has form..So ah...the AFL wasn't concerned then ??

SO yes, the AFL now have to continue with their 'obligations"

Did he have a history of violent on-field discretions before they employed him BB?

If so - strange priorities indeed!

Tbh Im not 100% over the hows and whens.  AFL Victoria in 2008 brought in an edict that should anyone accumulate a 16 games suspension aggregate  would automatically be deregistered.

He's now got 21. That means hes had 7 games tally prior ( since this recent was 14 games )

He was suspended for 3 games earlier in the year . I'm not au fait with the  other 4 to be truthful but you would have to start asking some questions
