Nothing perfect about it. Very worrying that Eagles could beat the Crows now with those players missing. We just have to get the job done and beat the Pies.

Shame its unlikely to be in Melbourne - would love to have gone and seen our supporters come out of the woodwork.

Who would we play the following week ... I think it would be the loser of Geel vs Rich a the G? We had both teams on toast earlier in the yr.

As an aside, its been so long since we made finals I couldn't recall the ticketing arrangements until the club sent me a timely email.

Just finished shopping in Bayside and outside Woolies were five cars all with Melbourne stickers on. (Not including mine) Both yesterday and today talking to people, two said they followed Brisbane and Sydney BUT also said they used to follow Melbourne and changed. Keep winning and I'm sure they will come back from the "dark side".

Beat Pies and hope Dons fall to Freo...

Would be glorious!

Yes, we'd play the loser of Geelong or Richmond in week 2 provided they both finish 2nd and 3rd.

Is anyone else getting the feeling that the Crows might just be out to F88k us over because of Lever (assuming it's done)?

Crows tinkering with form IMO, could go into finals losing their last 2 with a week off in between. Those lads must be injured surely? I think Crows and Swans both beatable anyway come finals

Won't matter if we beat the pies, if we don't it's going to be a horrible feeling until Sunday arvo

Just can't see us beating Sydney at the SCG. That joint is a fortress, the Swans are the best team in the comp, and we are always hopeless at the SCG.

Most likely result - we get flogged, I yell abuse at everyone including my girlfriend's parents, and I get banned for life from the SCG (even though I'm a member).

Geez, I hope we play Port in Adelaide.

you beat Collingwood and Adelaides actions are irrelevant.

The 2 outs certainly help WCE chances, but they are still no certainties in that game.

Melbourne and Essendon do what they should do, and WCE vs Adelaide is a dead rubber.

Or...if we lose AND Essendon lose, you'll be sweating on the WCE v Crows game. (is that right?)

No, I did entertain the thought they were trying to manipulate the finals by not playing a certain team until the GF should they make it. But they get the easier draw if they finish 1st.

I think when you're sitting on top of the ladder, playing an out of form team sitting 8 spots below you, you figure you've got it covered even with a couple of stars being rested...

WCE will be fired up, last game at Subiaco and finals spot on the line potentially. All hinges on our game anyway

Agreed.  Best result/draw for Adelaide is to finish on top which is a decent incentive to beat WCE.

However, by the time they play they will know the result of all games in particular the GWS vs Cats game:

  • GWS win, Adelaide must beat WCE to finish first.
  • Geelong win Crows will end up on top and their WCE game is meaningless.

The Crows will be in the box seat to decide who their opponent is in the first final, even if Rich lose and Sydney win.

I am just praying for a Dees win so I can relax for the weekend.

I had Freo beating the Tigers last week but moving on from that...

I think Port's margin over the Suns will be greater than the Swans margin over Carlton.

So for me top spot gives you either the Tigers or Port as a first round opponent.

For me everything hinges on the Saints v Tigers game. Saints winning is in our best interest. That would potentially give us

Tigers week 1

Cats week 2

Crows week 3

Come prelim we are going to be facing crows/giants/swans so all tough games.

In the fwiw category, interesting discussion on the Pies Big Footy board about the merits of losing against the Dees so as to finish 13th and get an easier 2018 draw (obviously assuming the Hawks lose tonight).  Some even see the Reid general soreness out as being indicative of this being a consideration.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
