Oliver is no 'stager'!

Featured Replies

People don't seem to realise, the club or Oliver did not charge schofield the umpire did. The club or Oliver didn't decide the penalty the MRP did. The club only needs to concentrate on one thing - THIS  WEEKS GAME

Surely even a graze to the lip or gum would have to be evidence of "low impact" at least, and further the absence of a graze would not be evidence of no impact at all

Are they trying to establish that there was no impact as he was charged with low impact?  Surely that could be their only defense*, and that would involve accusing not only Clayton of staging but also the doctor of lying.

*or are they trying to establish a new level between zero and low?  Maybe half a game so he can come on at half time next week? Knowing the vagaries of the MRP wouldn't put it past them.

Reminds me of creationists views when a new fossil is found to dismiss evolution (notice how its NOT a theory)... 'so now we have to find a link between THIS new fossil, and the most recent fossil discovered... god I hate monotheistic ignorance. god I hate the mrp.

He was keeling over immediately he was slugged by an elbow in the chin. Probably had his mouth guard out and he has teeth braces  and dug into his inner lip . Elbows are bloody hard . Who can say it didn't hurt ! Certainly not a computer jock!!!

He is as hard as nails and certainly not a faker ! After all he is only 19 years old and got slugged unaware by some old fart washed up player who was frustrated by the way things were panning out

Local media in Perth really winding up on it as well.

Yep. I've just noticed that The West Australian website seems to have a new analysis on the "incident" every few hours, it's pathetic. The Eagles fans (including their #1 fan The West Australian newspaper) are a bunch of butthurt crybabies.

I even overheard someone in my office the other day that was raising their voice and butthurt about Clarry "diving". Good. It makes me even happier to see Eagles fans act this way (being a WA local). I bet if they won the game this wouldn't have even become an issue. It's just sour grapes at the end of the day...that's how they are...

Thanks adc

If I wasn't so lazy, I would have looked this up before asking. Apologies.

The Tribunal will sit at 5.30pm AEST on Tuesday night and AFL.com.au will run a live blog.

I will be following that live blog with great interest.

This could get very nasty for the kid - just remember Goodes. Not the same issue, but once the mob gets something in its tiny mind, it's hard to eliminate.

I hope it doesn't get nasty for Oliver, today at work for the second day running  another Essendon fan stated to me Oliver should audition for Home and Away and Neigbours. That made my blood boil, seems Melbourne supporters are fair game now also.

I can't imagine what's running through his mind with all the social media abuse but one thing I will say is , Oliver has 40 odd brothers in red and blue, 21 of them will run out with him Friday night and around 40,000 family members will be there to stand behind him as ONE!!!

The STAGE is set young man!!!

Knowing the state of corruption at AFL HQ, wouldn't be surprised if West Coast were given assurances that Schofield would be let off if they appealed. Makes no sense to risk it all for the sake of a one week ban.

Never forget that the only people who found Essendon not guilty of doping offences were the carefully handpicked AFL's Tribunal.

If it wasn't for Melbourne I would never follow AFL these days. The game has become a platform for whinging abusive cockheads, from players to commentators to the MRP.

David Neitz is on the panel tonight.

Yes agree, but the guy had only 3 disposals didnt he? Hardly an indispensable player these days.

Provocative - Clarrie is playing with fire!

He should quit while he is ahead!

David Neitz is on the Tribunal so no fear of it being a kangaroo court staged by the AFL.

Yeah same. If it wasn't for Melbourne I wouldn't watch. I have been close to not watching anyway at times, and then I think of blokes like Viney busting a nut for the club, and I think I owe it to these guys to watch them.

I guess you could have responded that Essendon are a shoe-in for Australia's Next Top Chokers ...?

Good on Oliver for trolling the twitter flogs. Social media is just a toxic hate fest. Its good to see a player just take the p*ss out of it all, and troll the haters. Because that is all 99% of social media does - hate. It won't effect Oliver's game in the slightest.

I've just read the " thoughts " of the posters to the North Melbourne big footy threads discussing Clayton Oliver.  Talk about drones. These North fans are so dull, it's comical. If you had an IQ  of 58, you'd be in the top 5% of posters there.

Yeah thats exactly what i was thinking. Hes just a super talented kid starting his career. I would hate to see anything as pathetic and stupid as this overshadow it.

They had Brent Harvey at their club for 2 decades, so to their credit they would know exactly what a stager/diver/flopper/oscar nominee would look like. Seriously Harvey was the worst of the worst, I can remember numerous free kicks/50s being given from him falling from a feather touch. God I hated the little [censored].

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
