What it was was a huge display of disrespect for the jumper. Quite frankly most of them ought have just hung it up  ( the jumper)  left the change rooms , left the  ground..and just kept going.

I suspect there's more than a healthy amount of reinvention in various recollections as to what happened and all the whiles someone is incapable of reply.

If I was Brad Id just stfu.

There was a putrid stench about the place back then, and internal power struggles tore the heart out of our Club.  I suspect many people were culpable, but we will probably never know the full story.  What I do know however, is that each and every one of us loyal supporters were cut to the core.  We were foremost amongst the innocent victims!  There was no longer any pride in being a Melbourne supporter.

It took far too long, but thank christ we have finally left all that behind.  Hope has been restored, and with it some excitement and positive expectations.  It's good to be a Melbourne supporter again!  

I can't thank the architects and builders of our revival enough!

I still am ropable with the 22 muppets that ran out on the ground that day.  They complained to Stynes about the way the Club was operating.  They wanted change.  They had the option of showing public support for their coach, and at the same time giving their opinions credibility, by coming out and beating Geelong that day.  Alas, they took the easy option of a revolt, and ended up backing themselves, and the coach they apparently adored, in to a corner that had one unpleasant way out.

Bloke like Green, Rivers, Dunn, Jamar, Sylvia and Moloney were dead to me after that game.  I felt for McKenzie, Trengove, Garland, and in some ways Frawley, who all tried as hard as they could. 

I will never forget that game.  I watched it all (on TV thank Christ).  I didn't get angry.  I wasn't even shocked.  A piece of the MFC died in me that day, and I'm as one-eyed and as passionate as anyone on here.  And to top it off, of all clubs it had to be against, it had to be them.

Anything that Cam Schwab was invloved in during his tenure was toxic. Bailey's sacking was handled so poorly.

Talk about a guy way out of his depth. NFI.

I'm sure if you search previous discussions on this topic you'll find the answer.  Most have their views and I don't think it's useful to go over it all again.

Keep in mind there was a very strong cabal in place.  It helps join the dots. 

Healy and Lyon weren't involved with the club in an official capacity at the time yet they visited Stynes.  Go figure.

Those were times I would rather forget. Even on here there was a lot of fake news and disinformation selling the [censored] sandwich.

I know Greeny was asked a question, but can ex MFC club officials/ex players stop flogging this dead horse? 

I will own up and say that I did so last week in a thread. However, 186 has been dissected every way from Sunday by everyone who was there essentially. The only people interested in doing so are the ones with agendas. They are usually people who are no longer at the club (and usually prove why they had to be moved on by doing so).

It was a stage where we were the league's biggest embarrassment. Bails' treatment at the presser followed by the putrid year and a half of Neeld's reign of terror underline that. I have no wish to revisit those times.

Green and a lot of his mates almost destroyed the club. Schwab and Co did a lot of bad things but all it takes is a game like that to really burn [censored] to the ground. It was an insult to fans and long term supporters who had say through 40+ year of garbage. 

The sooner we got rid of that core, the better. And I'm still of the belief that we won't be 100% free of losing culture until every player on the list in 2011 is gone.

So get rid of Watts, Jones, Garland, Jetta, Gawn, Spencer ? What a jaundiced, silly thing to say. There is a great saying, that within every ounce of adversity there are the seeds of prosperity. ( Coined that meself, I did. Reminds me of when I lost my reading glasses outside a Polish cake shop in Carnegie recently. I thought it was the end of the world. Within a week I had new reading glasses, prescription slightly altered and I can now see much better what a pooh state the world is in. Mind you, the Demons are travelling okay...)

Some times I wonder about some of those players but relieved we haven't seen signs of those times this season so far. Last round in 2016 was like 186 lite to me. The look on the faces in the coaches box late in the game was very pained indeed. I hope we have finally moved on.

For Green to suggest Dean's game plan was ahead of his time is strange at best. The 'attacking' game plan suited the cattle we had but wasn't going to propel us forward. Many like Brett Moloney were one way mids so when things went wrong in 2011 we got smashed on the score board. We often won or lost by big margins. Makes our current team look super consistent. The margins leading up to 186 were:

Draw, -45,+11,+90,bye,-54,+96,-41,-20,-47,+33,-88,+89,+27,-64,bye,+21-54,-186

The game flows from 'defensive minded' to 'offence minded' every few years but when it comes to grand final day the defensive minded teams typically win out. The reason offensive play seems to be more evident now is more about the rules committee and not forward thinking.

The club made many bad decisions during this time. Sacking Bailey was an acceptable and not unexpected outcome. The problem is that the rift between the players and Schwab was not addressed and it should have been at least by seasons end. Hiring Neeld was another terrible decision. Tanking is also likely to have played its part in fracturing the relationships at the club. Gary Lyon was said to have influenced the club to only sack one of Schwab and Bailey to not look like a basket case club and Jim agreed. Another of Gary’s great ideas
