If we have the money and hogan stays would we consider Tyson and a pick for May, surely goldcoast could do with a player like Tyson and he will get the midfield role he craves

Tyson would have to agree. He’s already disagreed to a move to GC.

How can Hawthorn possibly trade enough for Shiel?

If GWS are forced to offload him due to salary cap constraints, then they have just been very very lucky to be able to exploit GWS’ inability to manage a list properly.

GWS also lost Treloar to the Pies which [censored] me (forget what they got in return).  Treloar is a better player than Shiel in my veiw.  If I was GWS I definitely would have wanted to keep Treloar.

I have to wonder.  How many weeks has May been suspended in his career?  I know he's gone a few times.  It's been one of the big knocks on him.  Anyone know how to find out?

As far as I’m aware he’s been suspended twice, once in 2016 for five weeks and once this season for one week.

It may have been mentioned earlier on this thread (can't be bothered looking), but there was a stage in the later parts of this season where the idea was discussed that Gold Coast could rip up May's current contract, effectively making him a Free Agent.  The reason for doing this is the compo pick they would receive would be of far greater value than what May would command in a trade.

With or without Jesse's departure, this is hopefully something the MFC are discussing with the Suns.  I'm sure the AFL would look after it's love child if they approached with this request.

Pretty sure the AFL crushed this idea....

The AFL didn’t approve it.

They got pick 7 in 2015 and 7 in 2016.

Collingwood got pick 28 back too

So he is free agent next year, and GC get say pick 3 compo.  Trade him out this year for what?  Only if they value this draft massively over next year would they blink, unless its cultural.  In that case, why would we want him?

Whispers circulating that Steven has requested a trade to the Dee’s. I must stress, these are whispers only. More to come. #ETthetradebreaker.

And Tyson is interested in North.  Tyson was reportedly on $500k pa.  Factor in the Kent trade, the more expensive delists/retirements (Vince, Pedersen, Bugg) and the likelihood of Aaron going ? should give us enough cap space to pick up May.

And, I reckon we will still have some coin in the kitty to pay our other trade in players.

So if we can find a trade that will satisfy GCS we can get May regardless of what Jesse does.

So, if this is the case, do we look at these two trades (hogan and may) being done separately OR is it still tied up , and perhaps with Hogan, it is finer detail to be worked behind the scenes, before an imminent announcement?

I have a suspicion, nothing more, that there indeed would be a plan B. By all accounts we've been into May for some whiles. This FD raiding party have proven themselves quite wiley over the years. You'd think they have a contingency plan should the Hogan fiasco go south.

Just my view

Tom Langdon had a medical at the Swans. Not sure what it means regarding Steven May.

Oscar might not be as dashing and agile as Frost but he has the better skills and is more composed with ball in hand. Much more composed. He may not be the finished article yet but Oscar played some very good footy this season, especially when Lever was up and about and he could play second fiddle back there.

Add May to the back six, get Lever back from injury and watch Oscar thrive with main glare of a key defensive spotlight off him. That’s the added blessing of having tough-ass gorilla-minder like May come into the side. Takes some of the heat off Lever and OMac.

Frost will be the one pushed to the back of the pecking order if May is brought in. Skill level is not at the level for a side with premiership aspirations. Couple of those fumbly turnovers and wonky 30m passes against an Eagles or Tigers and wooshka ... it’s game over.

put frosty on a wing?

That was Plan B. Plan A was to have a crack at him next year.

Plan C it is

Does anyone know if the club applied to the AFL for permission to trade next year's first round pick ? If so, were we successful ?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
