POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 9

Puzzled by Goodwin's unforced decision making

Put's Hunt up forward when he was killing it down back, really don't understand the change

Plays Petracca up forward every week when he is so good in close, desperately needed him in the midfield for the whole game today

They tagged Oliver and we were  unprepared for it. With Vince tagging Higgins we only had one effective mid, and Goldstien just kept hitting to their free   Midfielder.

North also tackled ferociously all day and were clearly on a mission.

We looked tired after last weeks mammoth effort and our lack of height and outside run were telling.

Also a real shame the umpires weren't at the standard today

Anyone suggesting umpire Nicholls is a poor umpire needs to realise he's had the last 2 grand finals. As far as AFL house is concerned he's doing a great job. Work that one out!

I'd avoid the North bigfooty site If you want to retain the will to live.

We are a developing side with a makeship forward line and ruck.

Even the most developed sides would struggle

So with the same average age, Norf are a better side than we are.

Awesome.We are clearly going places..........

We couldn't get any run going from half back and it showed how important our half backs have been to our drive and offence this year. North's tackling pressure wouldn't have hamstrung our half backs if the rest of the team were willing to work.

What??? We didn't have a ruckman. Do you not understand what difference that makes to the side?

That's all over .

I'm going to break both his ankles with a sledgehammer and dump him on Gils door like the lost dog he is.

That provides an argument for continuing with Weiderman ,Frost , OMac ,Wagner and Hannan . Get game time and experience into them.

Out of adversity we learn !!!  Positives : TMac ,Pedersen, Hannan

Where our recruitment has targeted big bodied mids, we severely lack in the big bodied talls department, and with a couple of key injuries , this has really shown us up this season

I try not to comment on games as I know my anger may subside later in the week. But Weiderman does not run to the right spots, doesnt present at all. He cant kick the F###ing thing and goes up when he has to with one arm.

Bugg is worse than Weiderman. And the umpiring was so bad they ended up not even favoring North.

Wow evenn they thought they got the better of the umpiring! Must have been really shizen!

PS how come they can use the word [censored] but on here it gets censored ?

Even with gawn back, we lack overhead marking power. It wasn't just Goldstein today. Imagine if we had a 6'5" we could use compete for the get out kick up the line.

Hands Up anyone who thinks the team trusts Watts to win those? This is a big deal. He runs hard, but his team mates just don't trust him.

This isn't "Watts hate". He's tried really hard this year. But he can't tackle, can't mark and at best halves 1 on 1.  Are great skills enough to make up for that?  I say no

Watts had 4 kicks  "2" marks  and didn't hit the scoreboard today. 44 player points ranking. We did rather need him to get involved today.

Mind you he had  a few mates, We  had 12 players  with 66 player points ranking or less.

Prepared to maybe forgive Hunt,  but a lot of the tribe didn't  show up.

Likely to get a small slap on the wrist, their pay check and a game next week.

That's how we do things at Melbourne

North taller, faster, bigger- bodied as always.

We were astonishingly small compared to North.

lol what, last week didnt show you that our ruck isnt necessary to have a win?

Its between the ears, not on the team sheet.

I have picked the last 3 weeks.. Knew we'd lose to Hawthorn, beat Adelaide & lose to North.. I'm not in the slightest suprised by today.. I'm so fkn over it though

We couldn't get our feet going

Then we shot ourselves in them

Al the whiles the Ump stomped on them.

That said. We lost because about 1/3 of the team actually got off their arss. We lost because the FD was fooled into thinking everyone still warranted being out there.

We lost because we dont change our game style to suit circumstances during a game.

We lost it because too many are soft in the head or get confused as to which team to kick to.

Can't win a game when you turn up at qtr time.

I've been calling Jones putrid with disposal for years but kept being howled down. Finally some have taken the rose glasses off.

Made the tough call a few years ago that once the team improves he'll be found out. He plays as bad as those around him and that's a major indictment on his leadership skills.

MCG is not our home!  No wonder the club has trouble getting a decent crowd of Dee's supporters to watch us at the G.  This club and current group have served up its members rubbish at the G this year, and against teams in poor form.  We started last year with a new club logo and some promotion of identity.  This year at the G is boring and frankly tiresome watching the team.

offield too we have gone quiet with marketing! When is this club going to make home games worth turning up to?  I still think the club is trying to find what it stands for!  The G once our proud home is no more relevant to team performance than it is at Traeger Park!

This club raises hope one week then goes missing every other week.  Such a bore of a club for such a long time.

Have a read of these numbers and tell me our guys worked hard enough...

TACKLE COUNT:

Viney - 9 tackles (continues to lead the way in that department)

Pedersen -  7 tackles (terrific effort and a surprising stat)

Jones - 5 tackles (not enough when you're playing in the guts, but passable - certainly didn't set the tone enough though)

And then the rest of the entire [censored] team had the following:

Bugg, Frost, Garlett, Petracca, Wagner - 3 tackles each (Bugg and Garlett need to bring more pressure than this)

Hunt, Jetta, Kent, McDonald, Oliver and Tyson - 2 tackles each (Hunt, Kent, Oliver and Tyson show with these lack of tackles that their heads weren't in it)

When then had Hannan, Lewis, Salem and Watts on a solitary tackle each. That is not good enough for the game style we want to play. What was our bar last week? It certainly wasn't 1 tackle. Not good enough.

And to round things out our two skinny KPPs in McDonald and Weideman failed to register a single tackle. Weideman did a couple of nice things in the second half, but fell over, was pushed off it and defenders waltzed past him far too easily in the first half - and he failed to bring the ball to ground like he had done the previously week. Yes, our ball movement didn't help that, but our forwards inability to tackle allowed simple Kangaroo transition for pretty much the entire game.

The tackle stat is clearly one of the KPIs for Goodwin's game style. No way Kent keeps his spot next week. I expect Harmes or ANB will replace him.

EDIT. Harmes and ANB for Bugg and Kent. It's a bit deck chairsy though.

I never really buy "tired". Mentally, sure, but physically, they're pro athletes and should have no issue getting up.

Imo, today was just a mammoth mental effort, come in as favourites again, primed to cement a place in the top 8, mate is fighting the battle of his life and the limelight is now on you.

We battled hard but still lost it.  Credit to North, that was a very hard fought win.

We'll be okay.

You'd think we would have shown more fight for Jesse given what he's going through but no, we played a quarter and a half in a very winnable game and it's time goody gets tough

id personally drop oscar, weid, Kent, Wagner and bugg and that would be a start

Can't disagree with much of that, mate. In positive news, Wagner hit his first target for the season today. It took him until the third quarter.

Weids probably got a game today off the back of some good tackles last week. Everyone on here was raving about his game so I didn't say anything. I thought he was average at best last week and should've been back at Casey. Having said that, I have no idea who would come in for him.

Not sure, apparently our players are snipers and us Melbourne fans don't understand the game.

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
